You are not ethical enough to be reporting the 'news'. Further you never checked with Begalla, a man you know, and when he clearly denied it, you still stuck with the story. I know you hope that either Begalla later joins the Clinton team and makes you look correct (it would still be a lie), or that the flood of stories will make this one disappear. I hope it sticks. and that folks challenge your ethics, and your viability as a working reported sinks. There are only two kinds of journalists ethical, who struggle to report the facts as best they can, and unethical who become propagandists for a certain person, group or point of view.
