Begala Writes The Bourbon Room
By Major Garrett
Paul Begala sent the following e-mail to The Bourbon Room moments ago.
Major:
I know you’re swamped and I hate to bother you on such a busy news day, but whoever told you I am joining Hillary’s campaign fed you some bum info. It’s just not true. Or as I say to my boys, N.H.D. Not. Happening. Dude.
I am not coming in as a volunteer, or as an adviser or as a strategist or anything else. I have contributed to her campaign, and am convinced she would be a great President. But I am not joining the campaign in any form or fashion.
Thanks a lot.
All best,
Paul Begala
The sourcing on the story is impeccable and its been confirmed through other, external sources very close to the Clinton campaign. The story has always said this is a matter that has to be finalized in a shake-down meeting tomorrow after what is expected to be a bruising Clinton loss here in New Hampshire.
The final decision is due tomorrow but the current intention, as The Bourbon Room first reported, is to bring Begala and Clinton on board as day-to-day strategists on a volunteer basis.
One of the realities of political coverage, is denials fly until the press release is out. There’s no press release on this. It is in development and that’s always the way The Bourbon Room has reported it.
The topic of bringing Carville and Begala on board was first raised in a Clinton conference call yesterday, a call in which two very credible sources tell me Begala and Carville participated.
Other big names from Bill’s era of politics are also under consideration, including Doug Sosnick and former Clinton pollster Stan Greenberg. Everything in a campaign is fluid, especially in one where so much has gone so wrong so quickly.
More to come

“I have contributed to her campaign, and am convinced she would be a great President.”
This from a major CNN political commentator. Hmmmmm…. No, no biased opinions there.
Another bad decision. Obviously the message that is resounding with voters is one of complete change. The democrats and independents are supporting the candidate most removed from the old, tired guard. So its now being reported that Hillary is bringing Carville and Begala back into the fold. Wow. NEWSFLASH, Hillary: Carville and Begala are synonymous with status quo.
Who cares it is just another horse race.
Too funny how everyone believes this will really make a difference in life.
We will all die in the end so I guess that is the great equalizer.
I thought she was running as the agent of change. Didn’t she say she had been fostering change in politics for the last 25 (or was it 35) years just last week?
Doesn’t sound like much of a change.
Time wil tell- Let the “spin” begin
Major, you rock.
Using your “but-I-have-it-from-an-inpeccable-source” and “it’s-a-denial” logic, nobody can ever be right except you–not even the person you are writing about. Why don’t you try waiting for the news to happen rather than inventing it?
Hi, interesting! Quick note: you said bringing “Begala and Clinton on”, you meant “Begala and Carville” right? Thx
O.K. folks. What is the truth? CNN is making you out to be untruthful.
WOW,
ANOTHER INDICATION THAT THINGS ARE GETTING DESPERATE. THIS COULD BE A GOOD SHOW…OR A VERY TRAGIC SCENE. IN ANY CASE, SOOOORRY, HILL, SEE YA NEXT GO ‘ROUND!
O.K. Fox. What is the truth?
Who would want to climb onto a sinking ship?
Who would want to climb aboard a sinking ship? Hilary needs a paddle more than Begala!
It would be a colossal blunder for Hillary to bring back Carville and Bergala and one that will surely backfire. Personally, I believe that these two are largely responsible for the extent of the breakdown in civility that is so pervasive in politics today. They revel in catchy but nasty soundbites that are repugnant attacks on the character and persona of their targeted opponents. They attack individuals rather than debate ideas. Their “good ole boy” mentality and behavior resulted in the destruction of respect for not only the president, but also the office of the president. If the American people are tired of the Clintons, just wait until these two buffoons try out their old tricks.
I’m so relieved to hear the Clinton Campaign is talking about bringing in fresh minds!
It’s about time! After reading her very first post-Iowa email, I was so taken aback by its lack of urgency. I’m not a political expert at all, but I believe I could have come up with a more forceful response to Obama’s monumental change in fortune. Anyway, I wish her all the best.
Media,
Please report ACTUAL news. Use your journalism degrees and find facts and report on them. Do some investigating. Please stop reporting hearsay. We have enough gossip coumns already.
So, this is a perfect example of the changes Hillary has been talking about over the last 5 days.
Hillary is not afraid to make the tough choices, and to enact change. This proves she was right all along, and actions matter more than words. This is just the start what voters in America can expect if they elect hillary; change, and new faces, and new ideas, and new………Is she Kidding us or WHAT?
Begala and Carville??? Give America a break. This is change? This is what we can expect?? This is nothing more than trotting out the old guard, following the same old paths, the same tricks, and the same spins, and the same mudslinging, and the same fasle opprtunstic blatherings we’ve come to expect from the Clinton Machine. I wonder if Bill gets to be on bottom now that he won that bet?
,
Cry us another river Senator and tell us why it is so important that America knows you really want this. And how this is just not what America needs now.
Thank God for Obama and the policy of winning them over with kindness, honesty, and giving the opponent enough rope to hang themselves.
Remember it’s thirteen wraps before the rabbit goes back into it’s hole Hillary!
So what else is new? In true “Clinton style”, ‘let’s fool the public, use smoke & mirrors, and lie thru our teeth, that way no one will know what we’re up to.’ Sorry Bill, the people DO know what you’re up to. Your days of dirty politics are over.
Don’t you believe, Hillary, has already “JUMPED THE SHARK”, with the “Weepy” stunt yesterday??? What surprises me the most is, no one questioned the validity of it….and you showed it over…and over…and over. This was a “manufactured Moment” and I guess the guy who told her, not to do it, is going to get replaced. All the while, Bill complains, “The media isn’t covering Hillary” and you guy just “JUMP” for good ol’ Bill. …………and Meanwhile, the greatest story, ” Obama”, doesn’t get covered. For the last 24 hours, i’ve heard nothing except about “Nutcracker” Hillary having an “emotional moment, and absolutley nothing about “OBAMA” or “Romney”. He called Obama, “The Senator Killer”. I loved it ….. but, you guys, keep pushing McCain and Clinton.
Well what else is new? and inevitable? In true ‘Clinton style’, “it’s time to bring out the dirt”. Sorry Bill, the times of dirty politics is long past and the people are wiser than you give them credit.
[...] reports that there will be no reconstruction of the Clinton War Room to save Hillary Clinton: I know you’re swamped and I hate to bother you on such a busy news day, but whoever told you I [...]
Both people have said that they are going to have nothing to do with Clinton’s campaign. Can we let it rest now?
Major,
I listen to you and Carl all the time and am a self-admitted political junkie. FNC is called the “default” channel by my kids. I don’t think it is that Hillary’s campaign fell so fast. I believe the Internet has finally found its true place in American politics and Barack Obama hit its target audience with a very weak message on “change.” Although light on substance, it is presented in a package of dignity and respect that no other politician thought about until the results were in, in Iowa. Kuddos to Barack’s campaign manager and handlers. The change with dignity message resonated with our young men and women and, unlike the sixties, parents listen to what their kids say. I know I am. My kids have already asked me who the Republicans are going to put up against Barack. In their words-”the old lazy-eyed Frankenstein” (Fred Thompson).
Mike D
The veracity of these two guys makes me think that if they deny it, it must be true. Another possibility is that it is a trial balloon leaked by the HRC campaign to test public reaction. Makes you wonder. The truth will be known by the weekend, I expect. Of course, by that time, Phi Slamma Obama will be measuring for drapes in the Oval Office.
Can you imagine? If they are this disorganized, this confused, this distraught, this angry, this back and forth, this bizarre, this …. so many negative things… can you imagine what they would do in the White House? How they would manage/govern the most powerful country in the world?
Hillary, what a mess, what a sham… You cannot be something you are not. Go back to the Arkansas trailer park from whence thou came….
Let’s pray that Carville and Begala aren’t returning. The country isn’t up to that group of malcontents in our faces for 11 months, day after day after day.
Why are the Clintons trying to force-feed the American people? The people have spoken and whether Obama is in or out the trend is not going in favor of another Clinton White House. Are the Clinton’s so selfish and divisive that they will openly try to hurt Americas opportunity to retool on a unified front both domestically and internationally?
Let’s be clear – she is NOT the only one that can do the job. If she could have made a difference whe would have made it by now. It’s about who can be the most effective at unifing, movitvating, and mobilizing the United States and the rest of the world to heal and help itself – without war and mayheim. Their former white house and campaign tactics alone say they can’t make it happen. She can’t even supply peace in her own home, how can we trust that she can provide peace for the United States.
The White House is a place of business and governess – not a trophy to be placed on a shelf or in a jewlery box.
While your article states that the Begala/Carville thing is a possibility, your headline seems to convey it as fact. That may be the cause of the confusion. Of course, this sort of thing seems common in the media as outlets try to grab headlines. If the headline conveyed that this is a possibility instead of fact, then it might be easier for the reader to understand the difference.
How in the heck can you believe him? He was one of the liars that worked for BUbba the idiot that walked around the oval office with his trousers around hia ankles.
“…Other big names from Bill’s era of politics are also under consideration…”
And this is why voters recognize Hillary a continuation of the same non-representative, special interests fluffing politics we now enjoy.
Impeccable credentials at Fox means the source can read and write…after a fashion
“bring Begala and Clinton on board as day-to-day strategists . . . ” ??
Are you saying that (1) Begala and Carville are still in play, still considering joining the Clinton campaign; or (2) that they were considered as advisors, and both have clearly stated* that they will not join the campaign? Is your position (1) or (2) or what?
=====
*Careville: “Fox was, is and will continue to be an asinine and ignorant network. I have not spoken to anyone in the Clinton campaign about this. I have not done domestic political consulting since President Clinton was elected. I’m not getting back into domestic political consulting. If I do go back, it would be safe to say that I’m the biggest liar in America.”
*Begala: “Not. Happening. Dude.”
“The final decision is due tomorrow but the current intention, as The Bourbon Room first reported, is to bring Begala and Clinton on board as day-to-day strategists on a volunteer basis.”
Clinton IS on board Dude!
MY FAMILY AND I FEEL NOBODY CAN HELP HER NOW.
JACK
I have always been a Republican, but I am tired of Bush’s incompetence — and worse. If the Democrats nominate Hillary, I will VIGOROUSLY support the Republican nominee. If the Democrats nominate Obama, I might actually cast my first Democratic vote EVER (other than for Democratic state judicial candidates and local Democratic candidates whom I knew personally).
So, Hillary, you can hire every nasty trickster who used to work for W. J. Clinton, but it isn’t going to do you any good. Nobody even LIKES you. Just quit!
Here are the emails Begala is making public today. So what’s the real story Major??? Someone is wrong here:

Just heard you say I was on a conference call with Hillary’s campaign yesterday. That’s not true. I was not on any conference call with Hillary’s campaign – and have had no contact with her campaign for months. No one from her campaign has contacted me — nor have I contacted them — and I am not joining in any capacity, paid or unpaid, official or unofficial. I feel like that old Lorrie Morgan song, “What part of ‘no’ don’t you understand?”
I have a lot of respect for you, and I like you, but I’ve got to ask you again to check with me before you go with a story about me. Someone is misleading you, and it is not me.
Again, I know the challenges of 24-hour news, and this is a crazy environment, but you can almost always reach me at this email address.

Just more bullcrap from FAUX NEWS.
WE MAKE UP THE ‘NEWS’. You follow along like good SHEEP.
Major Garrett is a LIAR!!!!
LIAR LAIR LIAR!!!
I think you’re just talking out of your ass major. why not just admit that you were wrong?
Saw this on the Huffingtonpost.
Begala explicitly denies the story and Garrett generously offers to take Begala’s statements “under consideration.”
This is journalism?
funny, how you didn’t show the entire email Begala sent you. You deleted the paragraph where he asks why you never contacted him to see if the story was true or not. Way to go to the real source for news!
You people are all morons. This is another shining example why studies show that FOX viewers are less informed than the rest of us. So, if FAUX News reports that a person is dead and that person shows up in the studio and says I’m alive, will you all take it “under advisement” or believe the hacks that call themselves journalist at FAUX News
I’m sure you all still believe that Obama is a muslim who was educated in a madrasa, we found WMD’s in Iraq and William Kristol is always correct. BTW, Kristol hasn’t been right about anything since 1999. He’s about as accurate as Cheney.
With the writer’s strike going on, thank god we have FOX News viewers to provide us with entertainment.
Not true Dude, maybe a retraction is in order or Big Bill should put you in the Pinhead and Patriots segment Major…
Bottom line, sounds like Major majorly erred on this so-called reporting. Shall we hold our breath until a retraction appears?

you political hack. begala is telling you it isn’t true and you are clearly now just lying. this is not going to be posted on your blog because you don’t want it to be. there is nothing wrong with my post, it just doesn’t fit within your predetermined line of commentary.
Wow. Fox Lied. Hard to believe. Major Moron, when do you get your nightly show?
Hey Minor Garrett, your an idiot. I am sippin’ some Wild Turkey Single Barrel and laughing at your dumb ass.
“I’ll take it under advisement”
You are basically calling the guy a liar. You have no professional or personal integrity based on that interchange.
Dems turned out 2-1 to repubs in NH. A big swirl around the bowl before you and the enablers are eating crow come November.
Are you kidding me Major? In an attempt to show the veractiy of your reporting, you open by including an email WHICH YOU CUT AND EDITED and then give no indication that you did so?
As noted above, Begala’s email concluded with the gentle admonition:
“Again, I know how busy you are, but I’d sure appreciate you checking with me before you go with a story about me. This email is always a good way to reach me.”
All I want to know is the truth I don`t believe in the Major or Begala.
All stories reported by you in the future will be seen thru the light of this story. Inaccurate and irresponsible will be my mental image of you when ever I hear or read your name. You have joined the ranks of tabloid reporters from this story forward. You are another of the Horde of Fox reporters that never met a fact they couldn’t ignore. You are an idjit, third class…….good job.
Political races are all like Scrouge now…….Ba-humbug
Where have all the real American Statesmen gone. I am sick of politicians and their self serving ways, we need some real American Statesmen to be running and not this bunch of idiots.
Mr. Garrett, are you still completely ignoring the fact that you never did any investigation of whether you were right, and you were completely wrong, and that you refused to admit you were wrong even after the parties involved told you that you were?
HA, some “professional” “news” “journalist” you are.
This reminds me of the story from All the President’s Men.
The President tells Ben Bradlee that he’s going to fire Hoover.
Bradlee prints it, and then the Pres names Hoover FBI Director for life.
Is this what happened Major?
It’s all just a conspiracy to make you look foolish?
Because you do.
Made more foolish by your “taking under advisement” Begala’s denial because your source is so strong.
How could the source be stronger than the actual subject of the story?
And now, weeks later, as your story proves to have been pulled out of the ether (if not elsewhere) there is no further comment from you.
Keep up the good work.
I do not think I have seen any one with what apeared to be hatred as deep as what I saw when you attacked Senator Barack Obama for what his minister reportedly said. He is NOT responsible for what his minister/pastor said. He is responsible for what comes out of his mouth. It appears those that are afraid he will be the next president of the United States are showing what and who they really are. Hate comes out as it is. I know hate from anger when I see it. I have faced hate.
I have to say Senator Obama showed strength, courage, restraint, intelligence, and that his is a gentle person and a gentleman when he answered you. He showed what a tower he is and the quality we need in a president of this great nation. He showed how he will react when he is meeting leaders of the other nations of the world. Interesting, God can use ALL things. This gave the people of the United States and people around the world the opporunity to see Senator Obama’s strength especially when he clamly replied to you. Millions were proud of him and changed their minds and decided to support him. How about that? His popularity shot up after that.
It was meant for evil but God used it for good. As He always does. The Holy Spirit knows what he is doing. Get ready Major Garrett, get ready, you will have a President Obama as the next president of the United States. He is prepared, ready and very much needed for our nation. Those in other nations are watching and know exactly what is on the minds and in the hearts of those who have attacked him with hate, malice, twisted his words, and shown that racism is still alive and well in the United States of America. Any one who can not see it must not live on the same planet I do. Perhaps they have their head in the sand. It has shown in the statements and faces of those who have spit out hate and anger to him. Those who are using the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright’s words against him are reaching for straws. They have nothing else to use against him. All people who have love in their hearts know what the press is trying to do to both Senator Obama and his beautiful wife, our next first lady. Incidentally, Mrs. Michele Obama said, “This is the first time I have been really proud of my country.” NOT the first time I have been proud of my country. How low can you go? Does he not have the same right as any other citizen to be president to this great nation? His country. He is the perfect person to be president for the next 8 years. The lies against them is NOT working. There are MORE good people in the
this great nation than those who sound like some of the ones I have heard on FOX NEWS. This man has beautiful brown skin. He is part white and part black. The part that is black is being brutally attacked. This is insane. God did not make a mistake when he gave Obama that beautiful skin and those wonderful grandparents who reared him in the faith and loved him and his brown skin deeply. He is no diffenernt from anyone else. Thank God he has an intelligent wife to stand with him and support him. This reminds me of Jackie Robinson when he was told to marry his girlfriend for he would need her for support. God never leaves us alone. Major Garrett, you will reap what you have sown. You have unjustly attacked a member of the family of God. That makes all of these attacks, “The battle of the Lord.” It is in his hands. Incidently, I am thankful he was strong enough not to denounced Dr. Wright the man. That also showed strength. Go back and read that speech he made in Phildelphia. Listen to it as a Christian and not a critic.
