Shake-Up Imminent in Clinton Camp

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Hillary Clinton’s campaign is due for a significant shake-up after an expected defeat in New Hampshire in Tuesday’s first-in-the-nation primary.Senior Clinton sources told FOX News that no one will be fired who has been part of Clinton’s effort to date, but numerous advisers from Bill Clinton’s White House and presidential campaigns will take on voluntary advisory roles likely to overshadow the input of Hillary’s current team.

Among those now expected to join Hillary’s post-New Hampshire team: Hillary’s former Chief of Staff Maggie Williams, former Clinton White House political adviser Doug Sosnick and high-profile Democratic ad specialist Roy Spence.

The Clinton campaign has engaged in frequent conversations with former top Bill Clinton political advisers James Carville and Paul Begala and is eager to bring them aboard. FOX News first reported that Hillary was actively considering bringing Carville and Begala into the fold as volunteer, day-to-day advisers.

Carville and Begala have denied seeking or anticipating any role in Hillary’s campaign. But senior Clinton sources say the move remains under active considertion and is driven by President Clinton’s intense desire to revamp Hillary’s flagging bid for the presidency.

Carville, sources said, drafted and submitted to Hillary’s campaign a memo outlining how to turn her effort around. Carville speaks frequently with Bill Clinton and lately no topic, sources say, has been higher on th agenda than the state of Hillary’s campaign.

The Clinton shake-up could occur as early as tonight, though the announcement may not be immeidate.

Clinton’s senior strategist, Mark Penn, will remain on the campaign, as will current campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, though their roles will be less prominent in the wider circle of advisers Hillary now intends to bring on board.

All the new volunteer advisers are believed to be committed to Hillary through the Feb. 5 national primary.

Many other prominent Democrats from Bill Clinton’s political past have turned down roles in Hillary’s campaign, fearing it may be impossible to turn her star-crossed effort around.

The shakeup appears to be a last-ditch effort to revive Clinton’s fortunes and give her contributers and supporters some rason for hope after two devestating early defeats.

The Clintons have to do something if they don’t want to miss this chance to win the 2008 Presidency. We will have to wait and see who wins though.

Is it too much to ask for a national correspondent to use a spell checker before posting to his Blog?

Please…

Shed more tears Hilary; let America see just how weak you really are.
Not only is your campaign compromised due to illegal contributions; planting questions in the audience that you are prepared to answer; you now show yourself to weak to handle Presidential pressures.
Thank God this is all coming out now for all America to see.
Your on a landslide Hillary; unfortunately landslides are always downhill.
All that’s left now is to see just how badly a woman scorned can behave….we will all soon see that side.

It’s Hillary America doesn’t like; not her staff!

The word “devestated” is spelled wrong at the end of this article. I should be “devastated.”

why are you calling her senior clinton, i think you mean senator.

Comment by John Galligan

Seems like it is time for Hillary to withdraw – the Clinton dynasty is over – it is time that she learns the real meaning of work, not just being the camp-follower of a career politician – who knows, she just might learn how to “iron shirts.” She should get out now and save some face. More TEARS just want hack it.

we don’t want nor need hillry. she should try and get a job in hollywood. what a joke

I agree with Sam, Major Garrett you need to use a spell checker. Or learn how to spell like the big boys. I saw two misspelled words. Firefox has a built in spell checker FYI.

Comment by Budget Demon

Looks like you have a “rason” for using a spell-checker, Major.

endorsement of a person because they speak or say change and you see the color of their skin as change. I hope you choose to endorse the peron who have experience and hope that change will come from that. example : If I applied for a job that was very important in changing Americans lives would I want the interviewer to look at what experience I have to make a difference in someones life? People have there own differences but please do not discriminate against a women for a top notch JOB remember you mother who carried you to term is a women.

Suggestion: Keep doing that heart felt “dry eye cry” Billary! Maybe the Jerry Springer former first family will pull it out again with false promises, self aggrandizement, and phoney emotional appeals. Two families, 20 years! Bush>Clinton>Clinton>Bush>Bush>Clinton
>Duck>Duck>Goose.

But will we ever find out what happened with the dead guy on the Washington Mall?

Ken Weaver’s comment, above, is, I’m beginning to realize, quite right. I had no faith in the American public, and I was certain that they didn’t see through her, but I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps I was mistaken. I’m also astounded that she’s doing as poorly as she is, and certainly hope her rejection will be loud and clear.

At the same time, I’m rather sad about Obama. Even though, among the democratic candidates, he is the only one who strikes me as a sensible man, he’s also (unlike Mrs. Clinton!) exactly where I want a mind like his: in the SENATE. I don’t think he’d be as effective as a president as he is as a senator, and I like having him where he is! I rather wish that he would not listen to his campaign managers, though…reading between the lines, I see a man who started out speaking for himself–and lately, he seems to be following a script and style that are alien to him, like a misguided puppet–it makes me think of the old Frank Capra film, “The State of the Union.”

I’d like Mrs. Clinton out of public office altogether.

While details of the reorganisation have yet to be announced, it is quite possible that it is a move in exactly the wrong direction. I would think that the last thing Hillary needs is a more ‘top heavy’ cadre of advisers, all competing for her attention and pulling the campaign in different directions. Critics can say that if this is how she responds to a crisis in her campaign, it bodes ill for how she will react if she ever finds her way into the Oval Office. Those from the Clinton presidency particularly reinforces the image that she is ’so yesterday’.

Maybe all the journalists should pau more attention to THE PEOPLE…it sure looks like Hillary has it going on!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there Hillary…it seems your opponents are putting up these “commentators” to try to discourage you. I am a believer of true competition and in a political race, as in any other race, many who have trailed at the starting line have caught up and overtaken the early leaders. Dont worry about the spelling teachers, they understood the message regardless of the the misspelled words.

FROM A JOHN EDWARDS DEMOCRAT: “Private” Garrett just couldn’t wait to get in the usual FOX News digs in his final two graphs, even if he can’t spell. This guy is a “national correspondent”???

A first or second place finish is hardly “last-ditch” or “star-crossed”.

All of you Hillary-haters take a deep breath, step back, breathe slowly, and practice saying
“M-A-D-A-M-E P-R-E-S-I-D-E-N-T”…

Comment by Heather

Wow it seems like a lot of people are intimidated by a candidate who actually tells the truth and not one who tries to shove a “vision of change” down our throats when no plan has actually been named as to how he will accomplish this supposed dream. I would rather vote for a woman of strength and honesty and lets that be her stance rather than some sort of catchy little slogan that is smoke and mirrors.

Comment by Jeff

It’s actually quite sad when the public constantly contradicts itself. All the exit polls say the voters want to change politics in Washington, and who did they vote for…the 2 biggest political pigs of them all…both Hillary and McCain. Who else has been on the public nipple for as long as they have? Lip service is BS…if you are that easily manipulated, don’t vote. Tears are pathetic, straight talk is a slogan. Are we that easily manipulated…I guess.

Looks like you are a little off the mark!!! Hilary seems to be doing fine.

Comment by Jeffrey

There is no way I will ever vote for either Clinton for anything! I’d take a chance on someone who might not to turn out to be crooked than one I already know is.

Did they ever find out how that box of important papers that somehow disappeared into thin air, and then magically reappeared under Hilary’s desk?

Maybe Bill was referring to Hilary when he said “I did not have sex with that woman” LOL

If Hillary really had any guts, she’d participate in Project White House. If you want change, check out these candidates running for president in Arizona! A vote for them is a vote for real change!
Project White House 08″
Arizona has more candidates on the ballot than any other state–learn all about them!

Comment by Billary

Not that I expect too much “journalism” from Fox News or related websites, but your opening sentence includes the words “… after an expected defeat in New Hampshire in Tuesday’s…”

I don’t want to pick a fight, but didn’t Hillary WIN in NH, with 39%? That would make it “an expected VICTORY,” no? Of course my ’source’ for the 39% is the FoxNews.com homepage so that could be part of my fact checking problem.

Comment by Mrs. Andrew Mason

A little egg on your face Major? Eating crow? You should have known better than saying the things you did yesterday: Clinton’s campaign “in crisis”. The Clinton camp knows they have lost New Hampshire. Even at that, it’s not so much what you reported, but you did it sir. Looks like a campaign is something for the voters to decide NOT “reporters”.

Comment by Rick C.

I dislike FOX as much as i do Hillary, however, Hillary won you moron. Major Garrett your a Major Failure in this ‘BLOG’ …

p.s. mr potato head called, he wants his nose back

Comment by Babs Macaulay

I sincerely believe that Mrs Clinton’s success in NH can be attributed to the venom shown by Chris Mathews. He has been totally unfair to Mrs Clinton to the point that one may be led to conclude that he has his own personal agenda against her.

Comment by David M

I find it remarkable that some people have such an intense hatred for this woman, but when you ask them why all you get is the same standard old rhetoric with little or no facts to support it. Maybe it’s because she’s a woman and that threatens some of these insecure misogynists. The fact is she is a fighter who is focused on what’s best for the American people. That would be a refreshing change.

Egg on your face, you hack.

To Major Garret and Fox News,

How can you possibly justify continuing to report and publish news that has been reported false? And reported false by the person in question himself, none the less! Fox News reports – even when they know it’s not true. It is about time for America to wake up and start deciding that Fox is not the place to go for credible, unbiased information.

Looking forward to your reply,

Change is to be expected. This is just a campaign, not the presidency.

Comment by Roger Aisles

Any chance you might say you were wrong on this story since Paul Begala told you three times it isn’t true? If you report, then I’ll be happy to decide but you need to get the facts first before writing the story.

Comment by Gary Goldberg

Not sure why Mr. Garrett seems to be ignoring Paul Begala’s denial. Unless this is a case where Mr. Garrett is quite sure Paul doesn’t know his own mind…

Comment by Elizabeth Laden

Hello,

I don’t know who to write to about this concern. I feel that Major Garrett’s campaign coverage is extremely biased. How can FOX claim to be fair and balanced with such a reporter who clearly works so hard to highlight everything he can about Obama and be so negative about Clinton?

I do not intend to vote for either Obama or Clinton, nor can I consider FOX an honest news source because they allow Garrett to be so out of control. If he behaved that way on my staff he would be fired. One thing that specifically bothers me is how you let him get away with saying he has “sources” in the Clinton campaign. If he cannot name those sources, he should not be allowed to mention them. Clearly he has no rapport with the Clinton crowd.

Comment by Leroy

This story is FALSE. Begala has openly denied joining the Clinton campaign and has posted e-mail correspondence with Major Garret on The Huffington Post.

Since you’re going report rumors, I heard that they are getting the old war room back together IF and ONLY IF Hillary gets the nomination. You heard it here first, I know a person very close to the Clintons that are in active talks with Begala, Carville, and Stephanopoulos. If she wins the nomination they will all join her campaign! Just wait and see.

Comment by Martin

Major, please do the right thing and apologize to your readers for inaccurate reporting of this story. Begala must have been pulling out his hair in frustration — I think he was what we call a “primary source.”

Comment by Bud Micalizio

Great call on Carville and Begala.

Comment by Rho

Wow.

You’re a horrible reporter.

Comment by Clint

Begala posted his email exchange with you over on Huffington Post. He flat out told you he was not joining the Clinton campaign in any way shape or form, yet you continued to spread the rumor. You have no credibility. And neither does your network.

Comment by John Pisani

Mr. Garret, when are you going to REPORT news instead of trying (lying) to make new – ie: the BS Paul Begala story. Further, as others has posted – didn’t Ms. Clinton WIN in NH or is FauxNews on another planet?

Comment by Ryan Porter

I have a solid source that says Jesus is comin out of retirement to play left field for the Cincinatti Reds next year. I think you should run with it guys!

Comment by tyler

Wow. Blatantly lying, never checking with the subject of the report, and refusing to publish a retraction when you’ve been publicly exposed as a liar. Classy. Great work. Jackass.

Comment by iPhone apps

Is it amazing how a little win can turn a shake up into a nothing story. Truth is the Clinton camp had no clue if they’d need a massive retool. Now i think they are over confident. Watch how this race thing plays out, this will be the true test of Clinton triangulation.

Comment by iPhone apps

Give Major a break. Just because you don’t like Fox don’t take it out on him.
