The Bourbon Room

Ariz. Gov. Napolitano to Endorse Obama

Two-term Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, the first woman to ever lead the National Governors’ Association, will endorse Barack Obama’s presidential campaign later today, The Bourbon Room has learned.

Napolitano has scheduled a televised press conference in Arizona for later today and will follow up with a telephone conference call organized by Obama’s campaign.

The endorsement gives Obama a nice boost in Nevada, where Napolitano is highly regarded among party regulars and has a higher visibility than most neighboring governors among those with a passing interest in politics — i.e., likely caucus attendees on Jan. 19.

Napolitano was named by Time magazine recently as one of the nation’s top five governors and was the first governor to deploy National Guard forces to the border to stem the flow of illegal immigration.

Napolitano also pushed for and won the creation of voluntary all-day kindergarten. She also raised teacher salaries and boosted health insurance coverage for children. While not identical, these innovations resemble concepts Obama has stressed on the campaign trail.

Obama is looking to convey to party insiders that the New Hampshire primary setback wasn’t devastating and that he’s still in the ballgame. The string of Obama endorsements since leaving New Hampshire has been impressive from a party-insider perspective: Culinary Union 226 in Las Vegas, Nevada Service Employee International Union, Sens. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Tim Johnson of South Dakota, Rep. George Miller of California and, now, Napolitano.

Do these endorsement moves votes? Culinary and SEIU in Nevada will make an enormous difference in the Jan. 19 caucuses — probably the decisive difference. Kerry brings an e-mail list of donors and cachet among rank-and-file Democrats who may still have doubts about Obama’s readiness for the Oval Office. With Miller in northern California, Obama gets a congressman with something few others have — a real political organization that can deliver votes. Miller’s also House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top lieutenant and that association, even if arms length, helps Obama among party regulars.

I, for one, am not impressed!

the press continues to bias our thinking about candidates. Why do you report those endorsements for Obama while the endorsement of Hillary Clinton by former Biden and Richardson supporters are no where to be seen?

Results from NH just a glimpse of reality how votes are fed up with the biased reportings and writings by the press. Keep doing it and Hillary will get more votes.

While I think she has done a very good job for Arizona, she’s looking out for herself. I think she believes she can parlay this into some sort of federal position if he were to win. The only other option she has, is to run for Senator and I think there is a real possibility of her winning there.

Another clear indication of the cross racial-cross gender appeal of Barak Obama. He transcends all the artificial barriers that separate us as a nation. Viva Obama!!

Gov. Napolitano, brings pride back to being a woman. She wasn’t swayed by hysterionics of other woman and feminists proclaiming that Hillary was being picked on and that we as woman should feel sorry for her, therefore we should vote for her. Those women who may have made up their minds to go for Hillary 1) because she is a woman or 2) becuase they felt sorry for her only prove to others that it’s emotions that drive woman and not intelligence! Be Informed! Question evertthing. Don’t be a spineless lemming. Gov. Napolitano is an experienced and impressive first class lady!

Am grateful to see a woman of Napolitano’s caliber and rank supporting a good candidate for the presidential run!

This is Great News for the Obama camp.
In NH Obama camp did great with the fact that Clinton won the union vote, nice weather abled more older people to vote for her and she cried thats worth a few votes on her side.
Plus he was stumping in Clinton area to boot.
If I was in the Clinton camp, im would be shaking for sure.
I love how Mr. Clinton, talks about fairytails.
How come know one takes about what Bill did while he was in office, I guess no one cares about morals anymore, as Bill is the one who made morals invalid.
Go OBAMA!!!

Janet,
What have you done?
Barack Hussein Obama has less political experience than You have.
Did you investigate his record?
He doesn’t know any thing about governing a country much less our United States of America.
What have you done????????
His only message in campaigning is about CHANGE.
What Change?
What have you done?????????

This is the first time I have found fault with your judgement.

as a hard core republican. i can actually say that here’s something happening! i guess people are sick of the status quo. by her endorsing the jr.senator means that this guys is more then qualified for the task – he is one of a kind -we’ll see how it plays out on super tuesday-besides voting for a republian, Obama is alswas my seconq choice- because he believes in bi-partisan.

Hi- Have these Obama endorsers read any of his speeches? Reading, rather than hearing, Obama’s words reveal Bill Clintons’s description- a “fairy tale” to be very accurate. The reasons Obama gave in his famous 2002 anti war speech were at best obvious platitudes, at worst fairy tales (dictators go into the dustbin of history), and in between, partisan paranoid fictions (Karl Rove and others cooked up the Iraq war for wag-the -dog domestic political reasons). Yes, Obama opposed the Iraq war in 2002- and the “fairy tale ” reasons he gave for opposing it are shallow, partisan, naive – totally unfit for national office- no matter how magic in person. But then Kerry thought his rhetoric would get him elected, too.

WE REPORT AND WE DECIDE yes, it seems as though Fox news is going to elect the next president by reporting and trashing the candidates that they are for or against. Some of the offensive remarks made by the reporters or Fox news contributors are malicious. Every single candidate running for the office of President of the United States of America is qualified and intelligent and deserves the same consideration as the others. Let’s let the American people decide who their next leader will be by listening to the debates and listening to their proposed programs.

Gov. Napolitano
I disagree all the way around on backing Obama.

The KEY difference between the Democrat and/or Clinton POV re: the Definition of “Distortion”

Mighty Big words, especially when She herself has stepped over one of the many critical decisions made by America’s Founding Fathers, the Invisible Line. It was placed there for a reason. Any individual should Know and Accept NOT to mix Church theory with Government Politics. It is AOK to discuss each topic separately and/or collectively on absolute neutral territory, IF done so civilly. In that atmosphere, it is considered open to debate; keeping in mind it is ultimately a “to each their own” conclusion.
Cardinal Sin # 1 Preaching political moral (individualized point of view) to a single domination, (Presbyterian), and on sacred ground (rightfully theirs). Even if they asked, a respectful decline should have been made.
Clinton, a crying shame has been committed, and shame on you. You have lost my vote!

That is what AMERICA is all about!!!

NOTICE***** the above is strictly intended to voice my opinion based on education and adherent knowledge; and is not intended to change the minds of those who think otherwise. What they think i.e. “their opinion” is their-own to decide. .

Comment by Joy P. - CA

Just curious, is Gov. Napolitano related to Judge Napolitano that appears on FNC??

Also, you do a great job of reporting and I certainly do not sense bias in what you say. Those that trash Fox for biased reporting apparently haven’t watched other network or cable coverage of the presidential race as they all drip with bias whereas Fox is actually the LEAST biased in their reporting. There are always those who think because they can use anonymity to be obnoxious. You and the rest of the Fox news team are doing outstanding work.

Hillary is running on the coattails of Bill….is this presidential I ask you. What are her accomplishments that she so eagerly keeps referring to???? We need a strong leader…in these times….and a crying woman is definitely not what we need. If she breaks down that easy…during primaries…imagine what will happen if we have a terrorist attack!!!
