Reps. Rangel, Frank and Dicks leaned on Hillary to drop bid

Congressional sources tell Fox that three high-powered House Democrats leaned on Hillary Clinton to end her campaign this week, even though she was at first vague about the timeline for her departure.

The three Democrats who prodded Clinton to formulate and then announce a specific exit plan were, according to Democrats familiar with the situation, Reps. Charles Rangel of New York, Barney Frank of Massachusetts, and Norm Dicks of Washington.

All three were on a conference call Clinton conducted with about 20 House Democrats who supported her campaign.

The consensus among House Democrats was that Clinton had to decide what to do “sooner rather than later.”

On the call, Clinton declined to commit to a specific date to suspend her campaign or endorse Obama. Lawmakers agreed not to discus the conference calls with reporters, but Rangel, Frank and Dicks made separate appeals to Clinton to come up with a plan to leave the race and to begin to set it in motion.

Early Wednesday Rangel voiced displeasure with Clinton’s speech on Tuesday because it failed to acknowledge Obama’s historic achievement in capturing enough delegates to win the nomination.

Dissatisfaction with Clinton’s speech led to intensified pressure for her to withdraw so the party could begin focusing on “unity.”

And while Clinton pledged to make the moves to begin unifying the part, the of lack a specific date caused Rangel, Franks, and Dicks to step up the pressure.

I don’t want Hilaary to drop out, but people are pushing her out.
This election is not just about being a democrat or a republician. This about how the American people feel.
This American feels cheated. Hillary can do the right thing and support Obama but that does not mean we have to agree or follow. I don’t agree with her support of Obama but I will respect it. I just can’t follow her down that road. Obama and the DNC need to take a step back and realize they screwed up AGAIN

Hillery should run as an independant. She would not have to revise her platform much to move to the right of Mccain. Then as a conservative I would have someone to vote for.

Rangel was asking too much.

Hillary just one more state the night they gave Obama the nomination.

You do not ask people to donate money and to work hard for you then just say we quit.
Rangel need to understand that Obama is not a clear winner.

He was losing big time on most of the last 10 primaries.

The DNC gave it to Obama.

Florida and Michigan delegates will have 1/2 vote. This is crazy.

Obama won with crazy rules and flawed rules.

Rep Rangel said it left congress in limbo. But congress has been in limbo for 2 years.

It is sad that Reps. Rangel, Frank and Dicks convinced Hillary to drop bid. What were they thinking. It’s to bad that people in the DNC and people like Rangel, Frank and Dicks had to step in and call this race. The DNC should change their rules. Winner take all (Hillary would of won it with the popular vote. DNC made decisions for the people. I and my family are changing to Independent Party. This pressure put on Hillary shows that this is not a democracy. Hillary should of taken it to the convention or ran on a Independent ticket. Obama, for our Latino family has to much bad baggage associations. We are proud to be Americans born here and served in World War II and Vietnam. And dislike people slamming our country.
I believe in my heart if all of this bad baggage would of came out before Obama winning many states Hillary would of been our Nominee. Its to bad many of my friends that liked both Dems. Will be changing their party to Independent. I and my family will not vote for Obama. Thank you Fox for being fair and balance. Msnbc and Cnn were stumping for Obama all the way and they got what they wanted. Who will they be slamming down now that Hillary is out. It will be boring. Peace, Castell Family

Shame on Hillary!! Shame, shame. She is acting like a little girl, pouting that she didn’t get the “part” that she thought she was entitled. Her poor attitude not immediately acknowledging Obama’s win is sour grapes, and very ungracious. I can’t believe that Obama would choose her as his VP. She has shown immense disrespect to him. Obama is the one has demonstrated a classy, respectful and very imaginative strategy from the get go to win his presidential campaign. That was the FIRST CHANGE in his CHANGE motto: strategy. Hill and Bill are old style, old news. Congrats to Obama!

Do you think that Hillary has considered still running for President as an Independent? I think that she would still have a shot carrying her supporters as well as a chunk of the Dem and Repub independents.

This is just Sad to hear. Hillary Clinton has not shown any qualities of a GOOD LEADER throughout this campaign. The problem – she was not ready on Day 1 of the Primaries. Hillary and her campaign staff sat-back and assume she had the nomination in her back pocket; especially since all of the Super-Delegates were not only loyal to her and Bill, but had debts to payback to the them. OBAMA was ready on Day 1. His campaign had a PLAN, a STRATEGY, and a POSITION-CHANGE! For Hillary to stress EXPERIENCE, she clearly did not show EXPERIENCE in running her campaign. They were definitely behind in this ball-game. AT 46, I would say, INTELLIGENCE carried more weight than EXPERIENCE. Everytime McCain opens his mouth its clear, his years of so-call experience didn’t teach him much at all. Yes, I commend him for his service in the Military, I’m a former Sailor in the US Navy myself; therefore, I can personally say Sailors, are getting out of the Navy by the dozen everyday because of this WAR! IT’s just RIDICULOUUS! To watch the children in Iraq be exposed to all this violence is absolutely out of this world! Bush and McCain have serious problems and those of you who plan to vote for MCCain in November, you all have to have some serious problems as well. These two (Bush & McCain) clearly are unaware of the views of the American people. They are in there own world. The money /pay the Military personnel receive is not worth the pain the children of fallen soldiers, suffer, or watching the kids of Iraq view gun fires, bombs and dead bodies in their path. Wake Up America. I will definitely be working hard at High Schools and Colleges to ensure the students voices are heard. As for Hillary Clinton supporters, there is nothing Barack Obama can do to win them over, so let McCain have those votes. OBAMA, please focus your efforts on New Voters, these are the individuals who understand Hope and want Change!

they have been telling her to get out since february. they stabbed her in the back, and have been planning on how to get obama the nomination for 3 years, so they can have a signature stamp for their liberal crap.

I am 50 years old and this is the first time I have ever seen a candidate forced out of the race! She has every right to take this to the convention! First they talked like there was some big hurry to unite against McCain but now they say He should take his time and think about VP? What the hell! Why don’t they just flog her in the public square! If they think this lifelong dem is going to support thier affirmitive action candidate they can go straight to hell!!! this woman has had enough of thier KGB tactics and communistic aproach to candidate selection by thier SS Rules and Bylaws committee and don’t blame the women who are leaving you on Hillary! You have done this to yourselves. I will NEVER vote for any of you a$$holes again

So you want Hillary to say she doesn’t care about Universal Heath Care, Education funding, The War In Iraq and women’s rights….just ot of spite because she didn’t win enough votes? She’s been acting childish recently, but I don’t think she’s going to change her stance in every position just becuase she didn’t get enough votes to win the democratic nominiation.

“Hit the road jack”

Hillary showed herself to be just as low-class as her husband. Messieurs Rangel et al backed the wrong candidate and were forced to take decisive action to avoid another monumental Clintonesque embarrassment for the Democratic Party.
