Obama has not said no to nucear power. He has stated that we need more nuclear power but we need to do it safely. he also recomends that we examine aging nuclear power plants to see if the need revamping or replacement.

The oil companies already have rights to over 30 acers of off shore drilling and they aren't drilling in 95% of it. They just want to get rights to as much off shore acres before Bush leaves office.

Something else to note. see report from 04/14/08.
I remember watching Mccain make these statements.

McCain says he believes U.S. is in a recession

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Monday that he believes the country is in a recession, adding that “these are very, very tough times in America.”

“Americans are hurting today,” McCain said at an Associated Press forum in Washington, D.C. “They’re hurting in the towns and cities across America. They’re sitting around the kitchen table, saying, ‘Are we going to be able to make our home loan mortgage payments? Are we going to be able to -- do I have to try to get a second job? Can I keep my job? Why was I laid off?’”

While McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said he thinks the country is in a recession, he noted that he is more worried about helping people who are facing “enormous challenges,” rather than figuring out what the technical definition of a recession is.

I have an idea. Why don't you put this information on TV. People are dying to know the truth about the adds they see. But instead, the pundits simply accept them word for word and make much a do about nothing. Candidates should not be allowed to flat out lie about their oppositions positions. This goes for both candidates. It is the responsibility of the News Media to show people the truth about the candidate positions, not to just continue their spin.

Denise, While I support the drill here, drill now idea 101%, there is superb technology in solar PV and wind. Solar does not litter the landscape any greater than power substations, as the roof of every building is the perfect perch for 90% of that technology. The cost per watt is roughly $4, while you get 1000 watts from your electricity provider for about $.10; the technology is improving and will become competitive in about 10 years. Currently, you can install solar, on average of 4000 watts of power panels per household, for about $25,000. Expensive, but you can operate an efficiently built home (a 1500 s/f home is for sale in Gainesville, FL) without tapping the electric grid. You'll pay more for this up front, but you'll have a sustainable home and a better built one. Wind is already employed in the areas of the U.S. that have constant wind to make it cost effective. Personally, I'd rather see 180 foot rotor blades than a constant haze and red-orange skies every afternoon from metropolitan smog. Britain has approximately 250 wind farms, and that is a dynamic that shows ingenuity and resourcefulness...even the remote traffic signs have wind turbines to power them/charge the batteries. You can't trash the future technology while knowing that there is a finite supply of petroleum. Economies of scale will provide the opportunity to move away from fossil fuels.

Obama never says where his $150 Billion is going to be generated from--but, any intelligent soul will quickly arrive at the answer: Higher Taxes. He, BHO, can harangue all he wants that drilling NOW will not have an effect now or in five years, but sitting around fanning the flames of stupidity like "windfall profits" on an industry that has a net revenue of less than 9% profit is ludicrous. Only the mal-informed and ignorant will be duped into thinking that drilling for resources that are at our very doorstep will not benefit us in the near future, as we don't have an immediate fallback. The free-market will drive innovation, as it always has, not taxing everything that moves, breathes, and can be followed to a SSAN by it's "carbon footprint". Congress is the first, foremost, and greatest problem this country has faced since about 1932. Taxing me is not going to solve your problem. Honor the United States Constitution. The greatest nation on earth will be destroyed through socialist ideas employed by the likes of BHO and a democratic congress. Bush has had no "drilling" plan with the exception of ANWR, and congress has repeatedly bolted the door and nailed it shut. Fools everyone of them that seem to think their law degrees qualify them as scientists, mathematicians, economists, and engineers. The liberals would do well to get a pocketfull of common sense...oh, if it were that easy.

So our choices are, 1.)acres and acres of solor panels littering our land scapes, or acres of wind mills blocking our skies while walking to work and freezing in the winter because we do not have enough energy to cover the lose of oil. Or
2.)off shore drilling of OUR own oil and gas resources, making ourselves energy independent, while at the same time building nuclear power plants and other alternative resources. This is a no brainer. We need to do it all and stop this 30 year fight to drill.
We had this same argument in the seventies (30% over seas oil) and now we are having it again at 60% over seas oil purchases leaving our National security on the line. WE NEED TO DRILL NOW>
