Gramm Out as McCain Co-Chair; Obama Reacts
Here is Phil Gramm’s statement tonight on stepping down as co-chairman of John McCain’s campaign.
“It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Senator McCain on important economic issues facing the country. That kind of distraction hurts not only Senator McCain’s ability to present concrete programs to deal with the country’s problems, it hurts the country. To end this distraction and get on with the real debate, I hereby step down as Co-Chair of the McCain Campaign and join the growing number of rank-and-file McCain supporters.”
And here is the Obama campaign’s response:
“The question for John McCain isn’t whether Phil Gramm will continue as chairman of his campaign, but whether he will continue to keep the economic plan that Gramm authored and that represents a continuation of the polices that have failed American families for the last eight years,” said Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan.
The Gramm moves comes at an interesting moment for McCain. He’s had an opportunity this week to push his economic message to shore up an obvious weakness while Obama has emphasized his national security and foreign policy message to shore up his obvious weakness.
Instead, McCain sought to challenge Obama. The skirmish probably didn’t move the needle in national polls very much but key events will allow Obama in weeks hence to draw closer to McCain on national security. To see why, please read my next post.

““It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Senator McCain on important economic issues facing the country. That kind of distraction hurts not only Senator McCain’s ability to present concrete programs to deal with the country’s problems, it hurts the country.”
To say this while John McCain is launching his first negative ad strikes me as particularly humorous. Just a bunch of psychobabble from a psychobabble expert.
I thought those were cute swipes at Democrats as the bad guys on his way down. It couldn’t possibly be that his comments were downright blind to the troubles regular people are going through, and that as a man who had McCain’s ear with respect to economics it leaves a major blemish on the campaign’s credibility. Phil Gramm has no shame, like most any other politician out there.
I have endured a lot of presidential elections and have noticed that when the “big top” empties out everybody’s checking account balance is unchanged except for the high rollers that had donated vast sums to both contenders. We need to expose the finely crafted circus for what it truly is. Voting should be limited to individuals that have a net worth of say 10 or 20 million dollars or more. These people run the country no matter which patsy manages to delude the public with the help of a culpable media.
Silly to say it’s a partisan issue. McCain knows this is the right thing to do, and he will give the real reasons. Hopefully he will get rid of Michael Powell soon too. Obama weeded out Samantha Power, thank goodness, now McCain needs to follow suit.
i think that it would knock black people off there feet if you pull it off and become america’s first african american president. may god bless you with loyal people and lots of help from all races.this message it for senator barrack obama. good luck with your campaigne. melissa davis
Fox Friday News Dump.
It smells.
I guess we won’t be hearing any more about Gramm’s economic plan from Fox News, even though it’s the center of McCain’s platform.
Wow, Obama found time to comment, what with preparing to part the Red Sea and all!! Still, a pretty weak response, forget about McCain’s plan and the fact that take out the last six months and 9/11 and the economy’s been just fine in the last 8 years. Oh wait, didn’t Michelle say that they were having a hard time paying for Ballet, you know Barak only made about $4 million from his book, and autobiography of a man with no accomplishments.
And what is the JUNIOR Senator’s plan, raise taxes? Brilliant! This plan brought to you by the stuffed suit candidate, long on speeches, short on judgement.
Join us at DefeatObama.org and together we can get America off of the Obama Kool-Aid!
Why is Obama “obviously” weak on anything? I know why McCain is weak on the economy – he said he was.
Even if the economy was giving everyone and opportunity to make repairs and take a rest like when there boat is in port Gramm’s comment reflects the very arrogant and elitist attitude Americans do not want. It does not matter beyond that what his economic advice to McCain might be. The question is how would everyone vote if each candidate had identical positions on the issues rather than who claims now to have the superior position.
That said, Arabs did 9/11 so it is not inconceivable that they could sponsor one of their own all the way from arranging a marriage to a White women to giving her offspring the mission of attending Columbia and Harvard to produce a political candidate capable of infiltrating our system who in the end would represent their interests rather than ours. The Greeks showed us with their Trojan Horse such thinking is ancient and Moses did as well. Bottom line is you can process horse or buffalo meat the same way as beef and few people might know the difference, especially if it were packaged and labeled as cow.
Mr. Gramm spoke his mind, what a relief !! Mr. McCain could not handle the truth, yes, life is a bit tougher, money a bit tougher, but THE World Is Not Coming To The End!!
Wake up America! We still are the Greatest Country on God’s Green Earth!!
Phil Gramm was responsible for the deregulation of electronic platforms which McCain signed off on that allowed Ken Lay and Enron to gouge Californians on their electricity prices.Gramm’s wife Wendy was on the board of directors at Enron as well and worked to create false shortages of electricity that bilked consumers of 40 billion dollars.Gramm is called by Fortune magazine as McCain’s “econ brain “and one of McCain’s closest friends. As far as the so-called obvious weakness of Obama on foreign policy issues McCain just claimed the idiodic notion that the counterinsurgency tactics learned in Iraq are transferrable to Pakistan.Duh, Pakistan in mountainous and Iraq is flat with no place to hide. That’s why Saddam had to dig a hole in the ground to seek safty.Iraq is a secular culture unlike the Taliband and the tribal areas in Pakistan believe Bin Laden to be a hero while animousity between Sunni and Al-Qaeda is well documented.McCain is clearly over confident and I hope the American people see through this media created perception. The greatest war time presidents were men with little or no military experience in Lincoln who was involved in the Black Hawk War for 3 months and saw no combat and FDR who never enlisted.Judgement is what both men had in common.
Hey, but I like it when he call the American people a “nation of whiners”! Come back, Gramm! Come back!
Could it be that Gramm is right? Coult it be that many of the troubles people are facing in this economic downturn were caused by those people themselves, or at least their neighbors? The Democrats always want to talk about how the American people have to “suffer” a bit in order to make the conversion to renewable energy. Well, I have news for you: suffering is not buying a house thats much larger and more expensive than you can afford. I don’t want to hear anything about economics from the Democrats. They have NO plan. Taking people and businesses to the point that they will be better off moving out of the country will only worsen an already bad situation. And forcing this renewable energy crap down our collective throat when we have enough oil to make a smoother transition to better energy sources if we can just get at it is ridiculous.
You go McCain!!!! I M SICK OF OBAMA!!!! His empty promises and his canned messgages. Wake up America or become slaves to your black master.
This lifelong Republican that has lived in Arizona 19 years has fought McCain every year. He is the ultimate Flip Flopper and is ready to sell out America to Mexican racists (MeChA & the Aztlan Nation) in order to make his rich White backers happy.
I happened to be in Grand Haven, Michigan when the loser showed up at the Pronto Pup where we had just stop to eat. He recognized me wearing my Arizona hat, and ducked in the other direction to talk with reporters so he didn’t have to address me.
I am no fan of Obama’s politics, but it will be a cold day in Hades before I will let an hour go by before Election Day without informing Americans about why Juan McAmnesty is terribly wrong for America.
Get informed. If you can’t vote for Obama, then vote for Bob Barr. Juan McAmnesty is completely wrong for America.
Go McCain? You’re sick of Obama? Do you actually have an opinion of your own, or has your blessed “fair and balanced” news station just pressed theirs into your head?
Do you realize exactly why our country is in the state we’re in? Failed foreign policy, complete and utter exploitation of 9/11 to create an atmosphere of fear and acceptance in the American populous? How about our economy?
Oh, I know! How about the fact that we’re trying to “solve” the world’s problems while our own country surges helplessly into a pit of despair and economic recession. The current government is dissolving our civil rights, and all they have to do is bring up the horrible spectre of terrorism, and everyone just nods in agreement.
A progressive is not what this country needs. However, I would rather have a progressive that stagnates our Congress than a Neo-Conservative who declares 3 wars during his inauguration speech.
If you want to look at why our country is in a hole right now, and where it’s likely headed, go check out the website for PNAC. This is the thinktank for the neoConservative movement. Just go educate yourself. Then, if you still think that McCain is the better candidate, more power to you.
Ask questions. Educate yourself. Take NOTHING that the media tells you for granted.
Anybody but the Muslim Obama.
But let’s admit it: Obama is (politically speaking) a suicide bomber, sent into this country to disrupt and destroy America as we know it. His wife’s hatred of this great country, coupled with his admitted sympathy with the philosophies of men like pastor Wright and the Chicago crime mob, make him imminently unsuited to running for president. He is in collusion with radical Islam, the extreme black caucus, and the far-left in his desire to foment ideologies that are abhorrent to the mainstream of American citizens of every stripe. We might as well elect a man like Malcom-X… at least his political views will be out in the open for all to see!
Phil Gramm and his wife abetted the criminals of Enron. Do we want 8 more years of tax cuts for the very rich and 4 trillion more dollars of deficit spending? Do we want four more years of Iraq, when the Iraqis want us out of their country? Do we want 8 more years of multi-national corporations writing the laws of our country?
Sounds like a man who can’t take responsibility for his actions….blaming everyone else for his demise………typical McBush behavior……Look in the mirror Mr. Gramm…..there is only one person at fault here….the one who uttered those insensitive and ignorant words…..POLITICS ASIDE, YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVE.
Hope for America

I am glad to see that people that don’t like Obama think that way because they are STILL under-educated. Obama’s budget includes taxs BREAKS(opposite of taxes increases) for 97% of Americans. So i guess you can say he is raising prices on 3% of Americans.
So your comment is 97% wrong. It is obvious that you don’t like Obama for other reasons besides taxes. The fact that McCain is the one that will raise taxes on most americans(97%) proves that you need to dig up another smear story or you may have to come over to the “dark” side.
Obama 08 because McCain is a senile puppet.
“You go McCain!!!! I M SICK OF OBAMA!!!! His empty promises and his canned messgages. Wake up America or become slaves to your black master.”
Lets disect this statement…
1. Poor punctuations…highschool dropout?
2. “empty promises”…considering that he hasn’t had the chance to prove that he will do his promises makes it a little hard to belive that they are “empty” quite yet. I could say the same things about McCain, I only assume that the Iraq war will not go on for “100 MORE YEARS.”(McCain.)
3. “Wake up America”….It seems like america is waking up, we are going to the polls in record numbers to vote for change, not to vote for the same old gov’t.
4. “black master” why does Obama have to be “black” or “master”? I could say “wake up america or become slaves to your hatefilled, war mongering, sexists, old, grumpy, slave driver” but i’d rather just say that:
McCain wants to put American further into debt with china(they own us because of GWB)
McCain wants his elitist friends to ahve tax breaks.
McCain knows people who are making money because of the war in Iraq and kids dieing.
McCain’s only political tactic is to smear Obama.
McCain would be the oldest man to hold office.
McCain ADMITS he knows little about the economy!
McCain ADMITS he doesn’t use computers.
How can you elect someone into office that doesn’t know about the economy and computers? Why don’t we un-freeze a man from 1950 and make him president instead.
Phil Gramm was RIGHT!!!!!!! This has become a nation of lazy whiners. My great grandfather was part of the great plains land rush and he would never accept any government charity because he had pride. In the coldest of Nebraska winters, he sucked it up and did what had to be done. I will quote Col. Jessup in A Few Good Men: ” YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!”
““It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate. . .” , what a pathetic statement. Are you listening Pres Bush. I give you permission to resign and offer the same reason.
McCain at 71, really needs to spend more time in the garden. He lives in his own private Idaho, with his billionaire wife Cindy. He has no cohesive plan for America, and only small clues about the everyday American.
The Republican party escalated the Vietnam war to the point of 50,000 U.S Dead.
Today Vietnam is a tourist attraction, in fact the Miss Universe pageant was just held there!
Miss venezuela won! Personally, I think Miss Venezuela would have won, without the 50,000 U.S
casualties. If you recall, we left in quite a hurry, unable to save their country from certain Doom.
Clearly, McCain is your man if you wish to continue your ride on the “Crazy Train”.
I see a pattern with the Republican party, Alzheimer, Imbecile, Alzheimer. It makes you wonder
who really is leading this nation.
This Nov,2008, we have a choice, A young man with a vision, wisdom and solid judgement, beholden to none, but the American people. Or we can go with Captain Ahab,
who would like to see Armegeddon in His lifetime, while on the hunt, for the whale which
ultimately eats him.
The choice is clear–Just say NO to Bunga Bunga.– Vote Obama

In spiritual life, there is an old adage, which Obama has paid a steep price for:
YOU BECOME LIKE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP or even think about.
McCain is paying the price for choosing as his key financial advisor, a man who is now known to have neither sensitivity nor common sense. It is not over. McCain chose the man as his advisor for his campaign. His corruption, his incompetence and his lack of human dignity are all reflections on the man who chose him.
He was mentioned as the likely Sec of the Treasury even three weeks ago.
The Rev Wright lost his temper after the CIA’s bin Laudin killed 3000 in New York City. I think the Rev had good reason to quote our US ambassador, “our chickens had come home to roost” because the CIA trained bin Laudin.
What excuse for a poor choice of financial advisor does McCain have? None.
This is not over.
Gramm was going to be McCain’s Sec of Treasury. McCain cannot rid himself of the taint so easily as firing him from the campaign.
Most of these Republican writer are racists with nothing to say except lies and racism and fear mongering stories from their imagination.
No ideas, no issues, just nonsense. Try to defend McCain and his choices on the merits.
All Obama’s foreign policy ideas have now been adopted by the Bush McCain campaign.
Obama’s campaign says: “Gramm’s remarks and his policy work are a pretty accurate REFLECTION of McCain’s worldview.”
If this is true, why can’t it be said that “Reverend Wright’s remarks and work are a pretty accurate REFLECTION of Obama’s worldview??”
It can be said, but some things seem to be more acceptable than others. Obama would rather lie or flip-flop than admit his faults and sordid past.
“GOD DAMN AMERICA” VS. “WHINING’?”
Hear me whine!
I’m voting for John McCain in November.
Shows to go you that if McCain didn’t have a bad economic policy, he wouldn’t have any economic policy at all.
And please, to the Clinton supporters, get this straight – being a JUNIOR senator simply means you have less seniority than the other senator from the state. Mrs. Clinton is also a JUNIOR senator.
Obama is a coward. He will never do anything to piss off moveon.dot org. He is too afraid of the rabid idiots.
All Obama cares about is winning the presidency. He will do anything, even destroy america, to sit in the white house. He has never told the truth in his life and the moronic left are so drunk on the kool-aid they will overlook his obvious lies, deceptions and blatant doubletalk.
Fox tries to paint the Obama Campaign as maintaining an elitist mindset. Do some reading on Gramm because Bourbon is a joke. I like how he ends the article with begging you to click on another link (just giving him more ad revenue) to continue reading. “To see why, please read my next post.” How bout you continue it in this article. You’re not a journalist, but a joke.
Y’know, it sounds to me like Gramm is “whining” about some “imaginary distraction”…
If America rewards the Republican’s with another term after the debacle of the last 8 years she deserves what she gets. McCain is just another GOP politician working hard at making the corporations richer and the middle class, well I guess they are all just a bunch of whiners.
I recommend the following to you citizens:
1. Do what you can to end the illusion that corporations are people and should have the rights of people.
This legal fiction has led to companies putting up referenda in competition with any attempts to rein in their power over us.
2. Ask yourself whether we really are better off now after 7 years of Bush and his war.
3. The current tax structure favors the super rich. Huckabee’s idea to end the income tax has merit.
End the income tax and go to a dual system of inheritance tax and sales tax.
Vote accordingly.
What can John McCain do to fire up his backers?
a. Go on a national tour singing “Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran.”
b. Crib opening of “Ellen”—begin campaign events by dancing down the aisle.
c. Drop the N-bomb. At this point, what could it hurt?

I have tried to post a legitimate point and most of the time it never makes it on these blogs, I though you are fair and balanced Fox. So lets see if this one makes it on the third attempt:
How many more people are going to leave his campaign, by the time this election is over he will most likely replace every staff member he has. It sad that now his top 7 economic advisors all have resigned, I just wonder how fox would have ran that over and over again if it was Obama. I know some of Obama staff have resigned but not nearly as much as McCain, he had more economic advisors resign alone than Obama total number. Oh yeah he has a lot of experience so if he makes unlimited amount of mistakes its ok because of his track record, what B.S….Obama has not only been right on most of the economic issues, education, foundation, etc but also on McCains supposed superior knowledge Foreign policy. Obama was right in not voting for the war McCain wrong and tried to justify it by attempting to fix a problem that we should have never been in.
-Obama was right in voting against the war McCain wrong for voting for it (I guess because he has experience its ok)
-Obama was right in having a timetable withdraw McCain wants to stay there for decades more which is wrong. Even the Iraq government wants us out, but not McCain he wants to ride this thing out because such a success. If this is the standard for success we as a country have fallen off.
-Obama was right in wanting to talk to Iran and McCain was wrong in wanting to use military actions because talking to solve issues is appeasement funny concept.
- Obama was right in wanting to focus in Afghanistan more not Iraq because they did nothing wrong to us and McCain is now focusing in Afghanistan.
So please tell me where the experience factor really worked for McCain. McCain can’t even tell the difference between the enemies on ground though he has been there. Are the American people that easily influenced because it seems like repeating something over and over again regardless of the truth behind it people will fall for it.
-Obama muslin wrong and if he was what does it matter. Not all Muslims are bad just like not all Christians are good.
-Obama and Elitist completely wrong McCain owns 7 houses, a private jet and has a net worth of over $100 million, if anything its McCain is much more an Elitist.
-Obama raising taxes completely wrong, he wants to increase taxes for the top 10% and lower taxes for the average American, middle and slightly upper (90%) unless you are in the top 10% or above $220,000 you are safe under Obama’s plan and it is the opposite with McCain take the time to see the breakdown.
The list can go on, most of you close-minded people need to open up and see both sides before making any judgment. Unless you have hidden feeling as to why. Many of you know nothing outside of what you see on the news do yourself a favor by researching before making another mistake.
