Isn't Mullen the same Joint Chief of Staff who on June 24, 2008 said to the military"Stay out of politics"? Moroeover, he urged the military "to avoid getting drawn in even inadvertently" to the presidential race or politics.

Now Mullen has done just that. Sounds like Bush got to him to try to offset the stated wishes and position of Al-Maliki and the Iraqi government. Bush, Mullen, and McCain now have had to show their sleeves outside their vests, namely, that their strategy is to STAY IN IRAQ.

More and more Bush and McCain demonstrate their view that it is okay for us to be colonialists occupying a country that no longer wants us there. Yet, was it not both bush and McCain who each said that if they want us to leave we would have to leave? Guess Bush and McCain didn't mean it! More arrogantly they have begun to say the Iraqi government doesn't understand.

Iraq, some American Imperial Colonialists have come for your oil and your wealth and do not want to leave.

Do we need more of Bush's parrots talking to us? Mullen, Rice, Mukasey, Gates, Hayden, they're all singing the same song dictated to Bush by Cheney. The surge worked? American taxpayer's money paid for and bought the Sunnis and armed them with guns. Do you think they really switched allegiance? Just wait and see when the money and arms stop flowing.

I cannot believe the machine of lies, and how careless they are in delivering these lies thank the American people are finally waking up to the BS. I think for the first time I am really proud of my countryand just because of Barack it is because the people are informing themselves and getting involved, cause it is going to take most of us.

Well the good Admiral seems to be listening to his Master's voice. I would like for him to answer some questions from a citizen:

Will the USA just leave Iraq in the dark of night one day? Or will there be a timeline?
If it is a conditional situation-define now what those conditions are.
After 5 years how many trained, loyal Iraqi policemen/troops are in place?
Define dangerous. More dangerous than now or the past 5 years?
Is the danger that the place will erupt in civil war?
How stable is a place that requires 140,000 U.S. troops to maintain stability?
How many troops will be required to protect the U.S. Embassy under construction now?
How long is a U.S. military presence planned for Iraq?

I don't know if I've ever seen a more biased line of questioning from a supposed journalist. The entire thing is intended to draw out the kind of answers the neoconservative wing would like to hear, and Mullen is surprisingly playing right along. All of this is of course spin control in the wake of events that do not support McCain and the neoconservative agenda such as Maliki supporting Obama's timeline for redeployment.
It's unfortunate that Mullen is carrying a bit of water for the administration. But I don't let official government lines form my opinion anyway. Real investigative journalism and analyses provide real information, something lost to Fox News.
The real gem in this piece is Chris Wallace' clever but unfounded "implication" that al-Qaida considered Iraq "the central front in the war on terror." Guys, in case you haven't noticed, NOBODY (except the Iraq war architects and cheerleaders) believes the fantasy that Iraq was the central front in the war on terror. It's a distraction less about terrorism and more about imperial adventurism, a U.S. act of aggression that CREATED the presence of al-Qaida.

Carly S. Foster wrote this for those who believe Senator Obama lacks vision and judgment:

1) On August 1, 2007 Senator Barack Obama stated that, “If he wins the election in November and an actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets in Pakistan become available and President Musharraf won't act, he will."

Senator Obama was of course immediately labeled as being politically "naive". However on January 29, 2008 our military implemented Barack Obama's "new" foreign policy. Using good intelligence and on-the-ground cooperation by local informants, we launched a drone into Pakistan and killed a highly-place al-Qaeda leader. President Bush did this without coordinating or in cooperation with Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf.

2) In October of 2007, Senator Barack Obama in reference to Iran stated "We've done incredible damage to our security and standing around the world for lack of diplomacy". Senator Barack Obama stated that as president, he would use direct diplomacy as part of working toward putting a stop to Iran enriching uranium.

As the first step in implementing Senator Obama's "new" foreign policy, the Bush administration plans to send an envoy to talks with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator in Geneva this weekend. William J. Burns, undersecretary of state for political affairs and the administration's point man on Iran, will accompany European Union foreign policy chief in persuading Tehran to stop enriching uranium. In addition, the government is considering opening an embassy that has been closed for over 20 years.

3) In November of 2006, Senator Barack Obama said the Iraq war has had "disastrous consequences" for the battle against the al Qaeda terrorist network and thus called for some of the troops now in Iraq to be sent to Afghanistan. In August of 2007, Senator Obama called for two additional brigades to be sent to Afghanistan. He has also consistently called for a phased withdrawal from Iraq.

Obama’s position on phased withdraw is now shared by the U.S. recognized Iraqi government. In addition, top U.S. defense officials now say they hope to send more forces to Afghanistan sooner than planned to tackle rising violence there and have recommend a cut in troop levels in Iraq. And of course, for the very first time on Tuesday of this week Senator John McCain joined with Senator Barack Obama in his call for more troops in Afghanistan.

4) In an October 2002 speech, Senator Barack Obama also stated: Let's fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn't simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil."

It seems everyone in the United States is now embracing the "new" thinking on energy policy.
