Could someone enlighten me. I must be really confused. Did we go into Kuwait to keep Sadam from taking over their country? Were we asked to go into Kuwait, or did we just march right in to take over their country? I think we stopped Sadam and had to watch him constantly. I watched a documentary on TV the other evening on the fall of Sadam. From what I could see he was a cruel and vicious man. His sons were evil murderers and they killed thousands of their people. Worse than Sadam. Genocide! According to the document he was trying his best to get weapons of mass destruction. Did we by chance go in to save the people of Iraq from a Dictator.I didn't see George Bush's name as the creator of that documentary. I just guess I don't get it. You can bet that our so called friends will be there to reap the profits, when Iraq becomes a stable country.
I have also heard that we went in for oil. If so, why is it that our gas prices are so high?

Also, Obama's trip would have been fine if he had gone quietly, and met with the heads of state from those countries. He chose to make a big production as tho he was the President already. I also believe that he turned down visiting our men and women in Germany because he could not get the publicity he was looking for.

Guess I'm just a dumb old lady who doesn't understand.

Frances L....perhaps you've failed to grasp how this all works. The surge didn't just "start". Efforts were being made on the ground months before hand to make it work. Part of which was convincing Sunni elements to abandon support for al Qaeda and their own insurgency. Really, just trust me on this one...the troops don't just hit the ground and the generals go..."ok..surge starts...NOW!"...Sheesh.

Comment by Sean the thinker
July 22nd, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Your response was all over the place but I'll address what was discernable.

McCain knows exactly what's at stake in Iraq which is why he wants to resolve the conflict effectively. Not cut and run with a "16 Month" non-negotiable policy that even Petraeus has recommened against (so much for Obama's willingness to listen to those who have a better understanding).

Militarily, Iraq's airforce is not at full strength, it needs to be in order for the Iraqi security forces to be effective. Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have made that crystal clear. McCain has already mentioned it. Obama is (intentionally?)ignorant of it.

Iraq's government needs to be at a level to govern effectively. Our further full strength presence there will help facilitate that, along with Iraq's economic growth. No one, particularly McCain wants to remain at full combat levels in Iraq any longer than absolutely necessary. McCain is making sure that "the good guys" do win and not have to come back for Iraq 3. You fail to understand Sean (or more accurately, won't admit)..that Obama isn't offering anything that the surge didn't accommodate for already. He should be thankful he was outvoted on being against it (and his certainty that it would fail and increase the violence). Don't forget, Obama has also claimed our military has been "just air-raiding villages and killing civilians" in the past. Perhaps you've missed all that?

Offering me McCain's commercial blaming Obama for oil prices is only diversion on your part. It has no bearing on dicussing strategic goals in Iraq. Nice try anyway.

Personally, I agree with McCain only he should have made it broader. It's the Democrats as a whole that are contributing to high prices by stalling and deflecting on more drilling. Bush lifts the ban, the price per barrel began to fall, it was no coincidence but it WAS a contributing factor. Furthermore, the Dems new mantra of "10 years" before we see relief at the pump is outright politicing. It's regulations that stall the production. Make sensible deregulations and the fuel is there in a year. Somehow I don't think Pelosi and Reid will discuss that. Their approval ratings are in the single digits for behaviour like that.

Sean..you convinced me your screenname is a misnomer

If it is true that John McCain's experise is foreign policy. Then maybe he is just getting confused lately. He had three gaffes this week. He should have instead concentrated on the economy and jobs. Good jobs are so hard to get. Today, if John McCain were looking for a job, do you think anyone would hire him? Maybe Walmart as a "greeter". It is hard to find a good job, especially for the elderly. Wow, and some want him for the highest office in this country, go figure. There is an article out there written by Neil Smith, U.S. Army and Colonel Sean MacFarland U.S. Army called Anbar Awakens: The Tipping Point. This is the firsthand article on this, just Google it. Tells dates everything.

John MCcain comments regarding the so call surge is wrong.
The increase in Troops wasn't announced by Prsident Bush until
a few month after the ANBAR AWAKENING, Col. MacFarland was
there, not Petraeus like MCcain said.
When MCcain quote an event i do research before i response.
I had to vote for him but now everytime he uses the term
"MYFRIEND" turns me off. "PHONEY".

Another arm chair quarterback. They "seem" always right. Obama playing President when not knowing the facts is dangerous and reckless. At the end of the day we freed millions and defended a way of life that our troops signed up for. If we exit WWII the way Obama wants to exit the Iraq war we would have a whole set of different allies.

Example of Fair and Balanced.

NBC, CBS and ABC report: Obama family loves the beach and finds that people who live in communities around beach resort towns to be laid back and enjoyable to be around.

Fox report: Obama family hates being around mountain people and finds Midwesterners uptight and hates being around around them.

Bill O' then tells the same story on his show and because he doesn't have video of Obama saying it he shows video of young lady in thong bent over picking up sea shells while he talks about how much he loves the Midwest and how Obama is un American. This is followed by a story of how MSNBC are sick people and show un needed scenes of half women wearing too little.
