Kennedy to attend Democratic Convention, allies, family all prepping for emotional Monday tribute

CHICAGO, IL – 9:15 p.m.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, whose early endorsement catapulted Barack Obama in the primaries, will fly to Denver Sunday and participate in a delegation breakfast Monday and witness a convention tribute on the event’s opening night, Fox News has confirmed.

A long-time Kennedy associate tells Fox that Kennedy, who is recovering from brain surgery and is no longer receiving chemotherapy, will join niece Caroline at the Denver hotel housing the Massachusetts delegation.

Caroline Kennedy was part of the team that helped vet and select running mate Joe Biden. Biden and Kennedy have served in the Senate together for 36 years.

The plan is for Kennedy to attend Monday night’s proceedings and witness a video tribute directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.

Fox has been told one aspect of the tribute shows Kennedy at the helm of a sail boat, his family riding along and responding to his “orders” to set the vessel on course.

Kennedy’s health is described as fragile but not deteriorating. His appearance will bear few of the tell-tale signs of the toll chemotherapy sometimes takes on cancer victims.  But throughout his trip and virtually every hour he is in Denver, the Kennedy family, led by wife Vicki, and longtime political allies will keep close by to monitor his energy level and overall comfort.

The video tribute to Kennedy, who challenged President Jimmy Carter in 1980 and set fire to the liberal wing of the party, is expected to be a highly emotional moment.

A capstone could be Kennedy’s appearance on stage after the video tribute concludes. There are no plans for such a moment, but it’s visual and emotional impact would be shattering among convention delegates.
In fact, Kennedy’s schedule is not set in stone and all movements are subject to his energy and comfort level, the Kennedy associate says.

Will the ghost of Mary Jo Kopoechne be present as Teddy sips is Jack Daniels and dumps diesel fuel in Nantucket Sound?

The Democrats should be embarrassed of Obama.

He has shown racism, sexism and has slapped the Clintons in the face.

How could anyone be proud of this man?

Remember Wright, his mentor?
Louis Farrakhan’s :20,000 Nation of Islam worshipers?
Now we have Ayers and Rezko as associations from his past?

Stop with worrying about the race factor.

Worry about our countries leader as a far out radical with anti American supporters.

I really respect Senator Kennedy……..but I find it strange that he will be speaking on the night Michelle Obama is speaking. In my view, it is because they are trying to take the focus off Michelle Obama…….because of some of the things she has said in the past……..and like many democratic women, we believe that she played a big part in making sure that Hillary was snubbed and not on the ticket with Obama. I am a democratic woman, and I will not be voting for a Obama/Biden ticket. Obama listened to Michelle……..an angry woman, that is not proud of her Country…..instead of putting the party, the Country first…….he let his fears and his not so proud wife…..divide this party. When he snubbed Hillary…….he snubbed all women. He basically said “I don’t care about your vote”…..well he might wish he cared come November.
If Ted Kennedy was running for President…….I can promise you, he would not have done such a mean spiteful thing to the women of this Country or of this party. He is a real class act…..one the Obamas are not!

Obama is a hustler, Chicago style. Says the word “change” but doesn’t back it up. Flip-flop on Michigan and Florida.

I think that it is appropriate that this page is called the Bourbon Room. I don’t wish any type of cancer on anyone, but let’s not forget the past of healthy people. He wasn’t ill when he killed that girl at chappaquitick. He may have been sick, but he wasn’t ill.

Major,

I look forward to your reports. Try to cover the Convention in the same way Shepard Smith covered Katrina. Fair and Balanced.

Good luck, you have the talent.

Thank God we had Ted Kennedy as a warrior in the Senate. He was not always right but he took up the cause for the less fortunate with a passion. He improved opportunities throughout his life for all.

Bobby

Bill Crystal was right…michelle..boring. Kennedy; my take I can remember only his past when I see him, Kopekni, wife Joan driven to alcholism, and all the rest of the stuff from my time. Nice sailing scenes though.

I usually watch MSNBC, but now and then during a commercial I will switch to Fox News to see how they are twisting things to make Obama look bad, and Mccain look amazing. Which is fine, that’s politics, not balanced, but ‘fair’ game.

Last night I was appalled when the night was over and Chris Wallace said the first night of the convention was a waste.

Ted Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, is getting radiation and chemotherapy, and he still got himself to the stage of the DNC to make a four minute speech about a man he supports and believes in, say what you want about him, but that is far from a WASTE!

CHRIS WALLACE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF, along with other Fox News casters that agreed with him. They have all become so hateful that they can no longer tastefully critique, they have become tastelessly immoral.

Katie….you work for CBS now….why are you watching MSNBC and FOX? Guess nobody watches CBS /news anymore.

Comment by Ed Anger

As weak and sick as ted kennedy is, He still can deliver a stronger speech than McCain.

Comment by Isabel

Ted Kennedy has outlived his usefulness on this earth. His is making an idiot of himself by elevating Obama to a pedestal where he does not belong. Obama is a pice of crap and an embarassment to this country. Michelle needs to go wash her filthy mouth and stay out of the public’s view.

Comment by J2X

Kennedy’s credibility is gone. It’s amazing the DEMS could not find a more main stream up and upcoming person to give a speech. One who is a little more respected.

Comment by J2X

The DEMS had nobody else to give the speech that had more credibility. The DEMS keeping throwing Kennedy at the people and this race is over.

Boo-hoo for Teddy. Granted, he is going through a tough time and conservatives and liberal alike wish him a full and speedy recovery. HOWEVER, tough times or not, I just can’t get past the fact that he KILLED a woman. The way this nation has rightfully demonized drunk driving should also hold Teddy up to that demonization. Because he got drunk and CHOSE to drive, he drove his car in the Poucha Pond, off Chappaquiddick Island, leaving the scene and causing Mary Jo Kopechne to drown. While it will be a great story if Teddy recovers, one thing is for certain, Mary Jo Kopechne will still be dead.

P.S. How can a state keep re-electing a man that could leave the scene of an accident causing a human being to die a horrible death? Libs are a strange (dangerous?) breed indeed.
