Gustav: Obama and Biden Say “Get Out,” Michael Moore Says Storm Proof There’s “A God in Heaven,” Angry Lousiana GOPer Responds

DUBLIN, Ohio –

Barack Obama and Joe Biden just held an impromptu press conference here to underscore the seriousness of Hurricane Gustav. Both urged residents in evacuation areas to flee the projected path of the killer storm.

Obama said he’d spoken directly to Louisiana Gov.Bobby Jindal, FEMA Director David Paulison, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Sen. Mary Landrieu (who left the DNC convention in Denver Wednesday to attend to hurricane preparations).

“Obviously this is a very serious situation. Every indication is that this storm is bearing down on the Louisiana coast and it is potentially a very powerful storm . I think the main message that Gov. Jindal, Mayor Nagin, Mary Landrieu and other officials wanted to communicate is for the public in those areas that are potentially in danger to take the evacuation seriously.

Even if you’ve ridden out this storm before, even if you think that it may pass over, even if you think that you can wait until last minute, this is going to be, potentially, very, very serious and, you know, for your own safety and your family’s safety, people have to follow the instructions of the officials there to make sure that this evacuation is going smoothly.”

Of Gustav, Biden said: “…this could be worse. It may not be worse. But Katrina wasn’t the – it was the worst storm ever hit it but it’s not the worst storm that could have hit New Orleans. And the back end of this storm, if the east end of this storm, which is the tough side, ends up being the place that goes over, over New Orleans, this could be, this could be gigantic in terms of its consequences. But those folks who rode out, do not ride out again, ride out of town. Get out of town. Do what the governor is suggesting, what the mayor is suggesting, what the senators are suggesting. Get out of town.”

Obama refused to say whether President Bush should attend the first day of the Republican convention in St. Paul, saying he did not “want to wade into the White House decision-making at this point.” Obama also said he has no plans to travel to Louisiana or Mississippi (also in Gustav’s path) because his entourage of staff, press, and Secret Service amounts to a “long tail.”

“We want to make sure that we are monitoring the situation and that we can be useful,” Obama said.

Obama and Biden could not have been more sober in their statements about the potential danger Gustav poses.

That cannot be said of enthusiastic Obama supporter and award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Moore. Before the Pennsylvania primary that Obama lost to Hillary Clinton, Moore used his blog to urge Pennsylvania Democrats to support Obama. Read the post here: www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=225

Today, Moore is attracting considerable attention for saying that Gustav’s projected landfall at the beginning of the GOP convention proved Providence favored Democrats.

Watch the Moore comments here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lrAf_TE-1I

Moore’s comments prompted this response from freshman Rep. Congressman Steve Scalise, who represents Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District.

“I demand an immediate apology from Michael Moore to the people of south Louisiana for his offensive and inappropriate comments” Scalise said hours before announcing his departure from the GOP convention to return to Louisiana. “People in Louisiana, regardless of political affiliation, are making plans to leave to protect their families from this serious storm, and the God I know would not share Michael Moore’s glee for our plight.”

Moore’s comments have nothing to do with Obama’s campaign. I am not suggesting they do.

I highlight them because Katrina was not only a massive natural disaster and human tragedy but a political lever Democrats used against the Bush White House (and in the minds of many, deservedly so). Moore’s comments are likely to fan a long-simmering debate about who was MOST to blame for the Katrina disaster. Gustav’s likely landfall when the GOP convention opens will raise questions anew about who failed and how much before and immediately after Katrina.

That so much of the work now before Gustav is being carried out by state and local officials — not the federal government — indicates (as many after-action Katrina reports did) that the key players in such situations are governors and mayors — not presidents.

Did the federal government fail massively, conspicuously, and heart-breakingly after Katrina? Yes. Did the Bush White House pay a massive political price for that? Yes. Was that unfair? No.

But Gustav is different. Louisiana officials, led by Jindal, are handling it differently. If there is a different result in terms of human suffering, those plans will teach different lessons. A different result may also serve to re-frame the historically one-side portrayal of Bush failure as the decisive factor in the catastrophe known as Katrina (remember: it was the state emergency plan to stage hurricane victims at the Superdome and the convention center, not the federal governments and no one is being staged at either venue now).

Oh whatever would they do if Barack and Biden didn’t tell those threatened by the storm to flee? Gimme a break! Who asked them?

If you watch the video the point Moore was making was the while Katrina happened, McCain and Bush were eating cake. He wasn’t joyful that Gustav is coming, rather thought that maybe this time around Bush & McCain would get off their behinds and do something!

Michael Moore is an idiot, and should rightly be criticized for his stupid remarks, which are similar to those of McCain supporter Pastor John Hagee, who said this about Katrina: “All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are — were recipients of the judgment of God for that.”

But it’s clear that if Gustav disrupts the media coverage of the Republican convention, that would indeed be poetic justice after the Bush administration’s utter incompetence and simple lack of concern for the people of New Orleans.

Comment by Michael Williams

What lopsided blather, once again, from an obviously left winged liberal. To state that George Bush deserved blame for the irresponsible actions of Louisiana’s leaders and residents is absolutely childish. No one over the age of eight could honestly think that it was the federal government’s (or more particularly president Bush’s) responsibility to make sure that every individual in the path of a major storm is either prepared or heeds the warnings of the major weather services, not to mention the local government’s warnings.

Why do you continue to employ such out-of-touch individuals as Mr. Garrett? He has very little command of the English language, and is so left leaning that one has no doubt as to his political affiliations. Please try to weed out such poison as this.

Very sincerely,

So tell me, Major, what do you have to say about the DNC Chairman saying the same thing as Michael Moore?

Seems as though Biden and Obama are doing a little damage control with their concern for the residents of NO and LA. I find it hard to take their gravity seriously.

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/30/don-fowler-channels-michael-moore/

I’ll quote the pertinent part of his conversation with Congressman Spratt:

“The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. [Chuckle] The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] … Everything’s cool.”

Obama should willingly apologize for the comments of both these men who’ve chosen to align themselves with his party.

I’m sad today for Michael Moore and the rest of the world. What have you or I done to make this country a better place to live? There are so many angery people in this world that just want their way. People demanding republican rights and democrate rights. Why can’t we say enought is enought and look for the right. I pray that some day Michael Moore will come to meet God and learn what love and self sacrifice is about. .

Katrina was a first of its kind event which will serve as a model for future huricane response scenarios. In the past, the hurricane plan was always ride out the storm in a place of safety, and then open the doors to bright sunshine the next day. That didnt quite work out so well in 2005 because the storm was too intense, the leves broke, and new Orleans was under water. Onthe in the aftermath did public offcials at all levels comprehend the magnitude of the disaster, and the catch up was impossible. This time, officials at all levels are being much more proactive about city wide evacuations and the people of New Orleans will be better served.

The enduring image of katrina was George Bush looking out of his airplane window at the aftermath. Mine was the sea of busses left patially underwater after the storm, representing the promise of evacuation for all of those stranded citizens that went unanswered. Then, and now, all the president can do is support state and local authorities. Bush didnt fail, everyone failed, and a lesson was learned.

Now, ironically, the only ones riding out the storm in a sports arena will be the republicans 1000 miles north in minneapolis. It is sad that individuals like Michael Moore pray for this storm, seemingly as to drown John McCain, Sarah Palin, and their suporters. My opinion is that the RNC will open their doors after the storm passes to brilliant sunshine. They have a great candidate and a great ticket which represents true reform. Meanwhile, this time local and state authorities will make the right decisions before the storm hits so that life is preserved regardless of the storm’s destruction.

Michael Moore is a doofus who has no credibility. He’s a piece of scum who hates anything that reminds him of his immoral life style.

Comment by David B - New Orleans

Gov. Jindal better do a lot better given the time and money that have been invested in a plan of action derived from the many lessons learned from Katrina.

Also, before Katrina the City of New Orleans specifically announced that the Superdome would not be opened as a shelter because of the damage that had occurred on previous occasions. It was late in the game that officials gave in and opened the Dome. The convention center was never considered as a shelter by the city. It was simply “occupied” by the throngs of people on the street after the flooding began.

Comment by Carolyn from Minnesota

What does Michael Moore have to do with Obama? Nothing. Why are these two separate news items (Michael Moore’s comments and Obama’s comments about the hurricane) being covered in the same article? Seems a little manipulative to me.

Comment by Craig Essert

The buzz around who’s responsible for Katrina……Is it not the local government’s responsible for the well being of the people who live in that city? Let’s get the facts straight here, yes Katrina was a huge disaster and I certainly feel for the people of New Orleans and the gulf coast, and yes, the federal government was slow and unprepared in dealing with a disaster of this magnitude. However, it was the Mayor of New Orleans responsibility to ensure that the people he is suppose to be serving are protected. He failed miserably in evacuating the city or even taking precautions before the storm even hit. He had days warning just as he has days now and he waited too long to do anything. Then afterwards he points his finger to the federal government for not responding immediately. The people of New Orleans pointed the finger to the wrong person, they should have pointed the finger to their mayor, not President Bush. And then the people re-elect him……open your eyes people.

Comment by Flipper

Rep. Scalise, we will see how different the Federal Response is. I personally wouldn’t put a lot of faith in a Bush Administration backed FEMA effort/response. I guess it is fitting, seeing as the Republican Party always preaches personal responsibility, that that would also hold true for natural disasters too. Please, please do not count on a FEMA response people of the Gulf Coast!! I would recommend taking full responsibility for your own safety by leaving the warning area. Please ask for help if you cannot leave on your own and please do take advantage of local and state officials’ help if it is available. Bus and train evacuations are currently taking place and you CAN take your pets this time. Check on your neighbors, family, and friends to verify they are/have evacuated. Please take care of each other and be courteous and orderly in evacuating and do so ASAP. Remember people of the Gulf Coast, we have all learned from Katrina and the last eight years who Bush does and does not care for. God Bless all in Gustav’s path and Godspeed!!

Major:

I’ve admired your reporting until the past few weeks and this article seals the fact that your objective reporting has gone down the tube. Would you just report the news and not be the lip child for either candidate. You seem to have forgotten your mission and been scooped up in the “Rock Star Mania”.
Besides, Obama and Biden need to remain quite since they can only provide “lip service” to the people of Lousiana at this time.
Has it crossed your mind that for once the Mayor and Governor of Lousiana are doing the job they are suppose to be doing, and were suppose to be doing before Katrina.

Comment by King Basil Lamus

All well and good… We can argue that the local government made mistakes, but the people in the Superdome were relatively safe for the brunt of the storm. It’s the days and weeks that those people suffered without supplies or hope of evacuation that I think people are a bit more concerned with. No one could really foresee what damage Katrina would do ahead of time, much as we don’t know yet if Gustav will give New Orleans anything but some heavy rains, but if it does can we hope that our government will not let those still in the city languish there for weeks? Hopefully the local government has learned a little self reliance and won’t be expecting FEMA to give them some magic pill this time around…

Comment by Richard Jones

The comment that has been made about the storm hitting during the Republican convention and it being an act or message from God is ridiculous. It is not surprising though coming from some Democrats whose egos are in line with thinking that they know exactly what God’s will is. The whole Democrat convention was nothing more than a big expensive ego inflating party. And for their information an acronim for EGO is Edging God Out! Don’t we recall that this is hurricane season and Katrina hit 3 years ago to the very week of this storm? If Democrats have an ounce of humility, they won’t go there.

Really Fox News?!? Really? Why bother with what Michael Moore has to say? Is he part of the Obama/Biden campaign? NO. He is an independant thinker, much like the rest of your non-viewers, who can distinguish the truth from the reality. The first part of the online reporting is unlike anything I would expect to find from Fox News; even with the comments of, “Obama and Biden could not have been more sober in their statements about the potential danger Gustav poses.”

I thought that was the end of the article. But then again I am reading Fox News. You have to remind your readers that Michael Moore “may” be part of Obama’s cabinet, so his comments are relivent when it comes to some natural disaster. Yet Michael Moore is only a left wing radical, much as Ron Paul is a right wing radical. Should we assume everything Ron Paul says should be added in a headline along with everything John McCain’s new running mate (sorry I haven’t heard of her) says about a natural disaster our CURRENT president should be handeling?

Hehe… :)

Here is what this evil Michael Moore enthusiastic Obama supporter guy said. Here is a bunch of Republicans scolding him for being soooo evil.

“Moore’s comments have nothing to do with Obama’s campaign. I am not suggesting they do.”

I’d quote the rest but it just gets more ridiculous after that.

Thats quite possibly the worst piece of typical white-house scare tactic reporting I’ve read in quite some time.

I’d be embarrassed to pen my name to that. You get paid for that??

MSNBC is just as unintelligent as Michael Moore is so who would watch them but unintellient democrats. They don’t care about the people in this country. They just care about making money.
If the republicans would stop buying Michael Moores movies or going to see them he might be a little nicer to them.
It breaks my heart that my nine year old granddaughter (who is in the gifted and talented class) will soon be watching Michael Moores movies.

Please note I dog sat for a fema employee who was deployed to the New Orleans airport THREE DAY prior to Katrina hitting LA!!!!!! And they were getting people with their pets out of the area THREE DAY PRIOR TO KATRINA. I know because I dog sat for them. This was prior to the governor and the mayor asking for help. But you never hear that in the media do you. The only thing those two politician could do was whine, complain and blame. Disgusting that the media perpetuates this trash.

But if some people lacking in reading and comprehension skills do manage to believe that the comments do have something to do with Obama’s campaign, I am sure FoxNews would not object. lol

Comment by Donald

I watched that interview with Michael Moore. Michael Moore said nothing wrong. He was acknowledging the irony of the situation; 3 years ago on McCain’s birthday, while people were literally drowning and dying, McCain celebrated his birthday by eating cake with Bush.

The comments Michael made were in reference to a hurricane hitting the same area that Katrina did while our government did nothing (eating cake is something I guess), at the same time said party is having their political convention. It essentially highlights the Conservative Republican’s disregard for the people.

Comment by Christine

Moore’s comments might not have anything to do with Obama’s campaign. However, when the chariman of the Democratic National Convention, Don Fowler says the same thing (God is on our side) when speaking of hurricane Gustav, it does have something more to do with Obama’s campaign.

See the video of Don Fowler laughing about Hurricane Gustav hitting New Orleans here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrBus8ORR78

This was taped on a public airliner flight by a passenger who could hear Don Fowler speaking plainly in a conversation that was in a public place, and therefore the speakers could not reasonably have any expectation of privacy.

The video is sickening, and typical of the Dems thinking…sick.

I rarely offer my comments after reading blogs as they are often full of hateful and disingenuous comments meant to further a personal point. Michael Moore’s comments are typical of him and only confirm how disconnected he is with reality. Moore’s comments really show his personal dislike for his own condition rather than targeting those they were meant to hit.

To Moore and liberal Democrats in general:
Even though Gustav awakens memories of Katrina, and the corruption of Louisiana government in general at that time, I do not hold it against you that you want to emphasize how negligent the Democrat Mayor and Governor were during Katrina. Remember, local authorities are the first responders in a disaster. Mississippi didn’t have a problem, but their Governor was a Republican. As far as that goes, having been a resident of south Florida thru the 1947 ‘cane and the lesser (class 3 or below) ones until 1975, we didn’t even know anyone would help us. WE HELPED OURSELVES!! These people are a bunch of wooses and whiners. Between what the government and private charity gave to the survivors of Katrina they could have rebuilt the country of the Netherlands. Mentioning the Netherlands, if you want to live 28 feet below sea level, I think I would get the experts to rebuild the levees and dykes. If you would go see the moveable dyke system in the Zeeland district of the Netherlands as I have done, then you would know how it is done. So no matter what the tribal witch doctor and his trolls pull up against our country we will prevail because G-D IS on our side.

Gustav is unfortunate for the states along the Gulf Coast, the American people, and the Republican Convention. As such no entity wins. That said, a natural disaster of such impending destruction could in the end turn out positive for all, if, that is, everybody put self-interest aside and pull together for the common good.

Should any of the major political parties use Gustav for political gain, it deserves to be defeated at the polls for its monstrous cynicism.

Comment by Jeff

You briefly mention that Obama is not going to the hurricane zone so that the people on the ground can focus on the situation at hand and not worry about providing security for visiting politicians. Additionally, he’s asking his volunteers and contributors to divert their efforts to hurricane victims. The same cannot be said of John Mccain, wife Cindy and Sarah Palin who are all heading down to Mississippi for photo-ops.

So much for “country first” I suppose. Mccains VP pick, his response to the hurricane and the decision to have the GOP convention continue as planned goes to show politics trump country.

Michael Moore was given the invitation to make a speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention for candidate John Kerry.

He was seated in the prestigious section reserved for former President Jimmy Carter. To those who say Michael Moore does not speak for the Democratic Party that is ridiculous. He has been considered one of the prominant spokespersons for a long time. Why else would he have a front seat role next to former President Jimmy Carter in their Convention?

Funny how no one is pointing out that before the DNC, Focus on the Family was asking people to pray for an abundant, torrential downpour to stop Obama from speaking. (you can see it here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohxdvio9n2Q) There is a huge difference between pointing out the irony of a situation and praying to (what apparently is a very mundane god, having nothing better to do than control the weather, and who, apparently, choose to ignore the prayers of his followers) have things happen. That said, Michael Moore is still a douche.

Also, can’t we, at a certain point, stop posting in shock and surprise things like Major Garrett is a hack who obviously tied these two stories together on purpose, or that Fox news is biased? Isn’t it just a given at this point?

Actually when in Katrina hit, devastation was much much worse in Biloxi, Mississipi then New Orleans.
The major difference is that Biloxi had been hit before, Camille I believe in 1968/1969. They new that they could not make the same mistakes that they had made with Camille. The Mississippians floated there casino’s to bays, tried to storm proof their homes, and evacuated. When they came back and saw the total horrific results, they quietly went about cleaning up and rebuilding.

New Orleans had not had a direct hit and did not know what to expect. It was the scenario of all the worst happening. Since New orleans had not had direct hits, no one had any idea that levies would not hold and that the flooding would be so extreme or so many shelters would be needed.

Now hindsights says that they should of done more before Katrina hit and experience says the same. Now with Gustuav, there can be NO “should of”, “could of”, or “would of” as they have both the hindsight and the experience in their back pocket.

People always amaze me……Let’s see who we can blame this one……What a petty world we live in!

It was devastating to the nation that 1,600 people lost their lives from a storm that is a hard one to put ones hands around. But No one talks about the million plus people that were evacuated or left at the time of Katrina, we only talk about the 70,000 people that stayed to weather the storm. No one talks about the almost 90 degree turn the storm took prioor to land fall. no one seems to remember the last LA gov. that did nto seem to take the storm Katrina seriously untill it was over. We do love to always point the finger at some one it makes us feel better about diaster. Could have responses and outcomes been better in the aftermath of Katrina most likely yes. But as Pres. Truman said “the buck stops here” so who else would or should be the focus of the finger pointing. As far as hollywood Micheal Moore goes I have noticed from news media coverage, he seem to put mouth in gear before his brain. And it seems always has to make a statement explaining what he ment by his comment. Just like this one.

Whether Micheal Moore is or isn’t in the Obama campaign isn’t the real question. Micheal Moore presents himself as a speaker of the left. He presents himself of the truth and the way the world should be. He speaks out for Obama. Micheal Moore did laugh when he was stating what he did and I believe Obama should come out and denounce him. What if this would of been a republican stating this the left would want his or her head.

Comment by Virginia Reader

To blame the federal government, or any government, for an “act of God” such as Hurricane Katrina is quite absurd. The city of New Orleans is built below sea level and may easily sucomb to the storm surge of a hurricane. As for the rescue / recovery efforts, the blame should be placed on the city of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana. The looting can be blamed on the un-civil citizens of New Orleans. Leave it to Democrats and Liberals alike to so conveniently blame a NATURAL Disaster on bureaucrats, how lame. Get a grip Libs, lets hold New Orleans and Louisiana accountable for their poor preparation, poor response, and neglect to their own citizens!

I find most of the extreme left usually don’t usually rely on a God in most of there decisions for this country but believe they know what is best for the country from there own personal view point, which is usually very short sighted.

I am not angry nor surprised when the Micheal Moores of the world make such insensative statements in the hour of peoples suffering, but feel very sad for people such as Micheal Moore. It really does show how truly they really don”t care about anyone but themselves. The Obama / Biden campaign have many supporters like Micheal Moore and they cannot deny it. Says a lot when a candidate’s supporters think like them.

I pray not only or the people of La but also for the people of Texas, Georgia , and Mississippi and hope they stay safe.

God Bless This Great Country!

As someone who lost everything in Katrina, and as someone who is not from New Orleans but further south and completely unknown, it is disgusting that people are debating comments and playing politics made by an idiot who knows nothing of the pain and personal loss that came with that day. My family did not expect the government to protect us. We did what we had to and we blamed the state and local officials for its inactivity. But that was three years ago. We have moved on and so has this state. And the fact that we are yet again in danger of losing it all again just makes it worse that the media and citizens of this country are pondering the meaning of some guys words, a guy who is using this to demoralize a stupid political party. it was not liberals and conservatives that lost their homes and their lives; it was Americans.

Go ahead and point out that Bush was eating cake and Michael can go ahead and say that it must be destiny that this storm came when the republicans were supposed to have their rally but it just sounds trivial to throw politics into a situation that most of the people in this country cannot fathom.

Why does anyone even listen to Michael Moore? Micheal Moore is about as hollywood as Paris Hilton with about the same IQ. Only difference between the two, is as Joe Biden might say, “She’s better looking.”

Moore’s Gustav comment isn’t really that much different from that of conservatives who comment that it (Gustav) may well be a ‘blessing in disguise’ for McCain since Bush & Cheney would have an excuse not to appear at the convention, thus saving his campaign an awkward moment given the public’s disgust with this administration…Though most conservatives defend Bush over the Katrina fiasco, and yes, he’s not the only one to blame for it, it’s the clueless compliment he gave the FEMA director, “Brownie…doing a heck of a job” that really incensed many…It’s a sad situation indeed when a party, or anyone for that matter, should look forward to a catastrophic event as a ‘blessing in disguise’ to further or aid a political agenda. Haven’t we had enough of this after 9/11?…So far, Obama seems to show more sensitivity, sensibility, and genuine concern than most by helping get the evacuation message across and staying out of the way. How crass it would be for anyone to use this event for a photo-opportunity especially since the media and the rescuers’ attention need to be focused on the residents and their needs, not on someone’s entourage.

Why is it that when Chicago had a horrific heat wave back in Clintons administration, nobody blamed him for the hundreds of lives (mostly poor black) that were lost. It wasnt til the 8th day of devastation that he decided to make a move from his golf outing (or what ever it was). Yet, Bush has fingers pointed at him regarding Katrina etc. Clearly the media covers Dems 70% (mostly positive) to Rep 30% (most of which is slanted negatively) as reported by an independent media watchdog group. Never take someones word for it on a blog (mine). Find out for yourself. Conservatives, without conservative radio, it would be difficult to realize that there is another side to all the national media bias. Do not be disheartened. Dial up. Learn what you can. Ask questions. Hold your elected officials accountable at the polls.

Mr. Moore’s comments are extremely tastless. But I expect that from him. What is worse is a professional journalist who is that openly biased. Keith O. should be ashamed. The one good thing is that this level of biased can backfire. I just hope America’s eyes are open. This blame America first attitude coming from Obama and his supporters in Hollywood and the media is a huge danger for our country.

Thank you to the previous blogger who pointed out how manipulative it is of Fox news to put Michael Moore’s statements and Obama’s in the same article. Completely manipulative–but I am coming to expect that from this network now…thanks for pointing it out.

Interesting statement here: “Obama also said he has no plans to travel to Louisiana or Mississippi (also in Gustav’s path) because his entourage of staff, press, and Secret Service amounts to a “long tail.” ”
Now, where have we heard this excuse before? It is reminiscent of the cop out excuse he gave for not visiting the troops while he was overseas on his rock ‘n roll tour. Either way, you simply do not care or want to sully your hands with doing honest work and being down in the trenches with the real salt of the earth people of this country, Mr. Obama.
It is no wonder to many why you are not denouncing the statements made by your party members and supporters about this hurricane.
The party of change, indeed. Shame on you, shame on all of you Democrats who think people are stupid and will not notice your fallacies.

Bobby Jindal is a REPUBLICAN. Why cant anyone report that when they discuss how the state response to this hurricane is so much improved. Notice journalists never label him republican. It is because an exact, deliberate, and intelligent person understands he must act on principle and solid values that the right steps have been taken.

And I live in South Louisiana. Moore is beyond comprehension and better left for priests.

I do not in ANY way believe that God used Katrina to shed light on all the sinners of New Orleans. We are ALL sinners and no one in this world is sinless. If that was the case, and that was his purpose, then we all should’ve been flooded out like He did back in Noah’s time. I believe God allowed Katrina to take place to shed light on the Bush Administration and other parts of our federal government that are not just. Bush knew about the seriousness of Katrina before it hit. He did not act responsibly and did not take the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. No one in that administration acted appropriately while people were losing their lives!

“On the day after Hurricane Katrina was declared to be not as bad as originally feared, it became clear that the effects of the storm had been, after all, beyond devastation,” a New York Times Op-Ed announced August 31, 2005. “But this seems like the wrong moment to dwell on fault-finding, or even to point out that it took what may become the worst natural disaster in American history to pry President Bush out of his vacation.”

“George Bush stayed on vacation. He didn’t get back to work. When the worst natural disaster in our nation’s history attacked us, George Bush STAYED ON VACATION. Why did the federal government stumble so badly on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday? Because on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, George Bush stayed on vacation in Crawford, Texas. On Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and Friday, vice president Dick Cheney STAYED ON VACATION in Jackson, Wyoming. On Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday, Sec. of State Condi Rice WENT ON VACATION in New York City and went to a splashy Broadway musical and bought obscenely expensive shoes. She went shopping,” Michael Giltz of AMERICAblog wrote September 5, 2005.

So I ask: Why should Michael Moore be criticized for stating the obvious?? It’s an insult to America and the human lives that people had to perish because Bush acted recklessly and negligently as PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Not to mention he was eating cake with John McCain (current presidential candidate) one of the days people were losing their lives and starving.

So now McCain and Bush are playing politics as usual. Bush is attempting to end his presidency in on a “positive” not and McCain is trying to connive his way into some more votes by being in the area while people were trying to evacuate Gustav.

I truly believe that Gustav is correlated to the RNC. Gustav begins Monday morning, the first day of RNC. Isn’t that something?! What is God saying to the American people? I pray no one gets hurt, but at the same time, everything happens for a reason. God has a perfect plan and it will all be revealed to us in due time. During this time, we should be praying and hearing the voice of the Lord.

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

P.S. Thank you, Michael Moore for having the guts to speak the truth!! The truth is not an easy pill to swallow.

Comment by Tauheedah

Why is Michael Moore statement about Gustav correlated to Obama asking the people of New Orleans to evacuate? Could this be propaganda?? You can always count on Fox News for that!!

Comment by Cheyrl

I hope Fox News points out the recorded fact of Democratic, so called, “jokes” and gleeful gigglings over the plight of the poor New Orleans residents in the face of Hurrican Gustav. This should send a clear signal to people everywhere that the Democrats would be delighted if there was a major catastrophe to disrupt the Republican Convention, even at the expense of your life. Does this sound like they care about you?

After reading other postings and seeing comments from both sides, it has become clear to me that this election will be the most important in our history as a country. the changes that I have seen over the years where education in schools has become more a lesson in how to change the country from a place where you are responsible for your actions, to one where your actions and the responsibility for them should be given over to those who say they will take care of you, support you, fight and be your Big Brother, always caring, always sharing. What a wonderful, brotherhood of man it will be. The whole world will join in our quest. Our leaders will ensure that everybody has what they need and want. Wow!
The plan to shift our proven system to another will spell the end of life as we know it. I see Moore sitting at the side of Jimmy Carter, Receiving praise from Bill and Hilleary. Proud that he has achieved his goals, and the goals of so many Dem’s. That we have become Communist. I do not fear the current storm. I fear the coming storm, the one which will blow everything we hold dear away, our freedom and our lives. If they win the election it will indicate the position that God has. That we all must pay the price for turning away from the foundation on which we built our country. May god have mercy on us all.

Fowler should be fired for his gleeful remarks. He was not even sorry about what he said, only mad that he was recorded.

Comment by Kathy

It has become quite clear to me that the democrats have shown their true colors with comments that are being made regarding the republican convention and Gustov. This should be the time to show compassion for our fellow Americans that are needing support and safety, not rude sacartistic comments made by some of our democratic leaders. This is not a time for politics and God does not take sides.

Being that I am sitting here about 5 miles from New Orleans, I think I have the right to say a little something. Incidentally, I would have said this sooner, BUT I was busy dealing with Gustav!

I do believe in God and Providence. HOWEVER, the one thing that might make me question this, now, is that I am sure God might have made Michael Moore a little less unattractive looking!

Comment by Mary

I am so tired of Bush getting the blame for the Katrina mess!! LA had a governor for a reason to govern, she and the Mayor are the ones that messed that one up. As we can all see now it takes a good Republican Governor to clean things up and do it the right way. You did not see MS blaming the President for the storm they just buckled down and cleaned the mess up. The Dems can always throw the insults out but God forbid if the Republicans say a thing….The Dems only care about themselves, they are such hypocrites. As for Micheal Moore, move to France or Cuba and quit making money off of the country you hate so much.

Where was the outrage when Dr. Dobson’s church asked everyone to pray for a downpour on Obama? If you are going to report the news, report it all.

Why do peolpe even care what Michael Moore thinks?

Do you think he can influence this election?

He has no more influence than Jon Voight.

Both are simply celebritites who are voting their conscience.
