Does John McCain Have a Tax Problem? Answer: Probably
BATTLE CREEK, Michigan — Based on the crowd reaction to recent attacks from Barack Obama and Joe Biden about John McCain’s tax policy, the Republican nominee may have something to worry about.
Obama and Biden drew huge crowds, I saw them myself, in Beaver, Pa. (8,000 people on Friday night), Dublin, Ohio (19,000 people on Saturday night) and here in Battle Creek (17,500 people) tonight.
The crowds roar with approval when Obama and Biden describe their plans for a middle class tax cut and boo loudly at statistics showing how McCain’s continuation of the Bush tax cuts favor the wealthy. Of course, these are partisan Obama crowds. But it would be unwise for anyone seriously backing McCain to dismiss their full-throated roars for Obama-Biden on an issue that historically has favored the GOP nominee.
Interestingly, the smallest crowd Obama and Biden drew was in the the most Democratic territory they visited on their three-state tour of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Beaver County (in which the city of Beaver is situated) backed John Kerry over President Bush 42,146 to 39,916.
The city limits of Dublin, Ohio, touch three counties: Franklin, Delaware and Union. Franklin County is home to the capitol of Columbus and Kerry carried it 285,801 to 237,253 over Bush (a margin of 48,548 votes). But Bush carried Delaware and Union counties by 35,300 votes over Kerry (69,013 to 33,713). In other words, Bush used victories in two counties to take away most of Kerry’s natural advantage in Franklin County. For Obama to win Ohio, he must roll up votes in Franklin, which he will, but also roll them up in counties like Delaware and Union (which, judging by the hordes who stood in the sun for nearly four hours waiting for him, he just might).
Battle Creek isn’t really a suburb, sitting as it does on the edge of a triangle that has Grand Rapids to the north, Kalamazoo to the west and Ann Arbor to the east. But this is not harshly anti-Bush terrain. In 2004, the president out-polled Kerry in Calhoun County (in which Battle Creek is situated) by 2,202 votes (32,093 to 29,891). In neighboring Kalamazoo County to the east, Kerry beat Bush by 4,315 votes (61,462 to 57,147). In Jackson county immediately to the east, Bush beat Kerry by 9,004 votes (40,029 to 31,025). In the three counties, Bush beat Kerry 129,269 to 122,378.
The point of these county portraits is two-fold. One, to show Obama and Biden are traveling to swing territory and drawing huge crowds and undeniable enthusiasm. Two, that the Obama tax message appears to be working in areas where the issue has been a plus for the GOP.
Add to this the mounting evidence that McCain’s TV commercials assailing Obama’s tax policy contain serious distortions, if not out-right lies.
On Aug. 8, FactCheck.org, published this report on a spate of new McCain TV spots on Obama and taxes.
Read it here: www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/more_tax_deceptions.html
That report followed one in July that raised similar concerns about the truthfulness of the McCain attacks on Obama. Read it here: www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/the_32000_question.html
And today The Washington Post published this blistering editorial that comes as close as any Beltway publication can to using the word “lie” to describe McCain’s criticism of Obama’s tax policies. Read it here:
www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/30/AR2008083001681.html
The Post editorial specifically mentions a side-by-side analysis of McCain and Obama tax policies by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. Here is the link to the center’s updated comparison posted on Aug. 28: www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/url.cfm?ID=411750
Both McCain and Obama would cuts taxes, but Obama’s tax cuts would be targeted to the middle class and partially offset by higher taxes on the wealthy (those earning more than $250,000).
But on the stump this weekend, when either Obama or Biden (they both hit the issue) said they would cut taxes for “95 percent of those who earn a pay check,” the crowds in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan shouted their approval.
The tax debate has just begun and McCain is losing credibility among the non-partisan bean counters and the larger media organizations that have done their own compare and contrast exercises.
With more than two months to go, the Obama camp will have plenty of time to script TV ads accusing McCain of distortions. For all these reasons, McCain may have more to worry about on the tax front than any Republican presidential candidate in a generation.

this, the same man who is following obama around covering him. Have you been drinking that stuff too? Did you see Mr. Forbes on fox this week? I think he knows a little more about money, taxes, and what these men are not telling us!
Major Garrett, thank you for putting the truth out here!! I have never trusted John McCain, I have always seen him as driven by his ego and not much more. Somewhere back in history when he returned from Nam, someone used the word “hero” and McCain has used “POW” hero as his venue to the White House. Just how does 5 years in Hanoi Hotel qualify John McCain for President of our country?? I just do NOT see the connection McCain has been and is trying to make between the two. The fact is, McCain could very well have been brainwashed and therefore his thought processes have been compromised/damaged. Listenting to him today, with all his forgetfulness and confusion, most of us believe he is suffering from the onset of dementia and even Altzheimers. Sometimes McCain just does not make sense at all. Take for instance his choice of Sarah Palin as his VP. A gal who served as major of a tiny town, and governor of the least populated state in our union; a gal who has NO world experience, who stated she has NOT payed attention to the Iraq War!! Has John McCain completely lost his mind? He cites that she was a hockey mom, was in the PTA, gee, are these prerequisites for the VP? Today he said Sara Palin “is my partner and my soulmate”. Did McCain FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS GAL AND THAT IS WHY HE WANTS HER AS HIS VP, TO HAVE HER NEARBY MOST OF THE TIME?? Isn’t his comment, “SHE IS MY PARTNER AND MY SOULMATE” normally used by LOVERS? Is McCain being delusional and thinking Mrs. Palin is in LOVE with him?? Partner and soulmate??? McCain is one SICK, SICK person!!
The FactCheck information about McCain lies about Obama’s tax plan starting in June, but I do not remember any TV media coverage of McCain’s nonstop lies. No wonder McCain keeps making false statements.
McCain is a liar, what’s new?
Major Garett,
I like your style of reporting.
Centrism and issue-based reporting has been thrown out of the window by most of the media. I am a Democrat myself, but that doesnt mean I disrespect the views of the other side.
Keep your reporting up! You are always one of the first on scene for FOX when theres a breaking story.
When you offset his “tax cuts” vs. all his trillions of $$$ of proposed spending and throw in his support of the U.N. tax which is going to cost $$$ billions (if not trillions), it’s hard to see how ANY AMERICAN is getting a “tax cut” during an OBAMA dictatorship… History has proven that gimics like “taxing the rich” and “windfall profits taxes” ACTUALLY DECREASE REVENUE… When presented with these facts on CNBC a few months back, the best response OBAMA has is “well, it’s not fair” – I hear that response (or another favorite “the rich get richer”) from every lazy person looking to blame their issues on someone else I know… In fact, the OBAMA and BIDEN economic plan (as a whole) is a recipe to spend this country into BANKRUPTCY…
Anyone who believes they will be taking home more $$$ with OBAMA in charge is a FOOL…
This clown spent an extra $4 mil for a speech in Invesco during a convention with a $10+ mil revenue shortfall!!! But hey, his ego over fiscal sanity… Not the kind of economic whiz I want managing the national debt…
Someone has yet to explain to me how increasing my FICA contribution, a.k.a social security tax, lowers my taxes. And an I really suppose to believe that closing loopholes and taxing the wealthy is going to pay for all of the programs: more money for education, contribution to the U.N. Millennium project ($50 – $90 billion), an additional retirement plan, money for college, more money for a failed education policy etc. The list goes on and on, you just have to read the DNC 2008 National Platform.
I’ve told my wife and others, if people are just barely making it now and Obama gets elected and raises taxes people could lose their houses; there will be no bail out for them. You won’t even hear about them!
I have been listening to the Republican lies for the last 8 years and listened to them during the Reagan years. This is how they got in – by telling everybody out and out lies about the economy and other things. How did they get away with this massive travesty? By catching people unawares since these types of political policies haven’t been tried since before the depression. In this country we need to put the people in charge, not just a small minority. This country became great because the middle class had money to save and invest, not because the rich did. The Republican party has only catered to the wealthy and as such can’t be say that they are for the common man, because they aren’t. It is no surprise that they would lie to achieve their goals, which is to take this country back a hundred years and to make it a third rate country.
John McCain has more than tax problems. Why not start with his vice presidential nominee? She claims that when she found out, that the child that she was carrying, had Down’s Syndrome, that she and her husband, decided not to abort the child. Now, when, I heard that, I thought, well, you decided to get pregnant, why make the child the victim, when you wanted the pregnacy. Like, don’t even parade yourself as “oh so great”, for not getting an abortion. Lilke, women over 40 are advised not to have a child, because they could have Down’s Syndrome. And, yet, Sarah Palin “tried” to prove what a “wonderful mother she was.” in not terminating the child’s birth. Well, it turns out, that it was her daughter, Bristol. who was pregnant. They had her drop out of school, and, she was gone from school almost 8 months. But, Sarah Palin says that Trig is “her child.” Have you ever watched when, Sarah had been named the VP, that she didn’t hold up the child, that her daugher, Bristol was carrying him around. Doesn’ that strike you as kinda strange? How about Bristol “dropping ouf of school” because she had an “extended case of mono” for 8 months? How about Sarah Palin, giving a keynote speech in Texas, and, then, referring to the fact, that she had to make the speech right away, because she felt her amniotic fluid breaking within her? Wow, if’n you were her, would you not have said, “Take me to the hospital right away?” Yeah, you would have, but she didn’t. She insisted on being flown back to Alaska–which was over an 8 hour flight–, and, then, she had to drive to a hospital that was over 45 minutes away. And, hey, let’s not forget how she ran some miles, just three days after being released from the “hospital.” None of the people that she worked with, can recall her being pregnant. They all said that she wore tight fitting clothes at all times, and supposedly, when she said that she was 8 months along, that no one even suspected that because she never had a “bump.”
Well, gee, now that it has been brought to some people’s attention–she has removed a bunch of photos from her website. And, she has no pictures that showed that she was pregnant. Well, by now, I am sure that her website, has purchased one of those “bump pillows”, that shows she could have been pregnant.
Well, heck, figure out your own selves. You have 4 children, then, you give birth to a fifth one. He was born with Down”s Syndrome. He is going to need more attention and bonding than your other children Let me see, what would your reaction be to a “soccer mom”. Would you say, you know, this opportunity only comes along once in a lifetime. My other 4 children were born healthy, and, this one wasn’t. He is going to need my constant care and bonding. Heck, John McCain knew that when he asked me to be his vice president. So, do I let my child slip through the cracks, or do I become a Vice President?
Gee, she wants to give everyone the impression, that family comes first–but does it really? If that was the case, then, when John McCain asked her to be Vice President would have been a no brainer–I am sorry, but my child comes first–he needs me. But, then, again, Treg, is not her child, but her eldest daughter’s Bristol’s child. That is why she chose to be vice president instead of President to her “child of Down”s Syndrome.”
You always want the best for your child, no matter what. How can being the Vice President be best for you and your child, unless you are not that child”s mother? A child always needs a mother–even more so, when they have Down’s Syndrome. This just reinforces the fact that Treg is not hers, and that, the Republicans are going for any vote that tries to portray them as family first. Ha!!!
Factcheck.org is owned by the Annenberg Foundation (remember Ayers)?
You’re absolutely right that this is a ticking time bomb for McCain. One wonders how he thinks he can get away such outright lying — and also why Obama has been relatively passive in terms of correcting it. But then again, one thing about Obama that is becomign increasingly clear is that he’s pretty good at scripting his campaign, rolling things out on his terms, not McCain’s. We’ll have to see, but either McCain will abandon the lie, or will come to grief over it.
Those who shout so loudly are eager to receive the handout that Obama and Biden are talking about. You know. . .take from those who have the brass ones to make it on their own (and happen to make more than $250,000 in a year) and pass the higher tax monies down to those who see no reason to try.
Robin Hood. . .is that Obama’s real name?
Come on, we who have eyes can see what’s up. A true blue politician. . .say anything you need to say to get the lemmings to follow. I pray that if he should win, those who keep falling over themselves trying to crawl to their annointed one are happy with a totally Socialistic state they will be living in. You know the kind. . .do as I say or. . . . . .
It’s about time that people awaken to the fact that for the VAST majority of Americans, Obama will actually cut taxes to a greater degree than will McCain. Obama will cut taxes by $567 for families making up to $19000 a year. McCain will cut them by $21. At the $38000 limit, Obama will cut taxes by $892, McCain by $113. At the $66000 limit, Obama by $1042, McCain by $319. These three income brackets amount to 60% of the US population. The more you make, the bigger the tax cut McCain will give you. The poorest among us would receive a .2% tax break in McCain’s plan, while those making over $3 million would receive a 4.4% break. Obama, however, gives the largest tax breaks to the lower, middle, and upper middle classes. Draw from this what you will. But please don’t come here any more with the tire “Obama is going to raise your taxes” argument; for the vast majority of Americans, Obama will cut taxes to a greater degree than would McCain.
Please everyone, I just had a dream that woke me up. Something told me to beware of the two people named Obam and Biden. Think about it. Take out the “b” in Obama and add an “s”, you have Osama, then add the “nla” in the middle of Biden, you have Binladen. Combine, that spells the Osama Binladen ticket. America, you better wake up. Somebody is trying to tell me something in my dream.
It’s hard to believe this comes from a Fox reporter. It’s not likely we’ll see or hear any of this during Fox prime time. Hanity must go nuts when he reads something like this.
This is an interesting situation, I really do not like either candidate in this election, both are FOS, but in all reality you know and I know that these tax cuts are rhetoric, blah, blah, blah.
If you cut taxes fo rthe wealthy they do not create more jobs. At least not domestically. They just get richer and the national debt spirals further out of control. Likewise with the middle class, whats left of it that is. The cuts just sent the national debt futher out of reach, but hey! What am I talking about? Even if there were no tax cuts our broken down government will not magically become fiscally responsible. So lets just party like its 1999 and let someone else worry about the consequences.
I love this country and what it stands for, but I believe that criminals and traitors have taken over the government a long time ago thanks to the laziness and irresponsibility of the nations voters.
Years ago when we began trusting some freak on the radio or television to tell us who the right person was instead of researching things for ourselves we lost the right to our freedom and now all we need are quick and crafty soundbites to move the masses to-and-fro like waves on a pond. Pavlov would have loved a conditioning experiment on this scale.
Sarah Palin was not pregnant with child.
Her sixteen year-old daughter was.
Checking with the Anchorage High School that Bristol Palin attended, reporters were given word that her family had taken Bristol out of school due to contracting infectious mononucleosis. The amount of time Bristol was absent shifts from five to eight months.
Mono can last anywhere from two weeks to three months, but an eight month infection is a freak oddity. Yet it remains a common excuse given by girls in private & Catholic schools around the nation when pregnancy comes into play. Not the first time, not the last time.
The following photograph of Bristol has been dated late 2007:

And the following photograph was printed in the Anchorage Daily News, on March 9th:

Bristol is pregnant in these pictures. She is not carrying belly fat, which grows outwardly wide, and does not become dome-shaped. That’s because fat is generally evenly distributed around the abdomen and a fetus is not. Bristol’s chest is sticking out, a normal body reaction when sucking in stomach muscles.
Yesterday, the State of Alaska has also moved Sarah’s photo page three different times from
Just where is Obama going to get all the money is promising to spend on his programs? It has to come from somewhere!! I bet it will come from all people.
Major,
This report isn’t up to your usual objective standards. You have a reputation for providing well-reasoned explanations that delve beneath superficial reactions. I don’t quite follow how the opinions of a clearly biased mainstream media and the “shouts” of crowds constitute a convincing argument that Obama’s tax plan will benefit Americans more than McCain’s.
I appreciate your fine work and hope you to see you return to your high standards of reporting based on independent thought. You’re one of the few reporters who hasn’t swooned over Obama; in the past, when you have praised him or his policies, your reasons have been fact-based and insightful. Despite what most in the media seem to think, some of us are actually trying to make a thoughtful and considered decision.
Thanks again.
You now I have read your blog a lot and have never really considered you to be one of the journalist in the back pocket of the almighty Barrack. But this article really calls into question that. But any ways we have all gotten used to the media bias of barrack, but lets analize his tax promises. Barrack says he his going to cut 95% of americans taxes and only raise taxes for 5% or people making 250,000. My question is he has also promised trillions of dollars in new programs and he plans to pay for them by raising taxes on corporations and businesses. Well that is great except everyone except libs understands bussinesses don’t pay taxes the people who buy their products or services pay the taxes. So when Barrack raises taxes for these corporations he will be making everything we purchase more expensive, because one thing is certain corporations are going to make sure they hit their profit magins.
Another example of what high taxes on industry does comes from the small town in upsate New York where I grew up in, it has a population of about 5000 people but we had 6 major paper mills with in five miles. But the almighty goverment of New York got greedy and kept raising taxes on industries there are now 0 paper mills in the area they are still in bussiness but they are employing canadian workers. So yes lets get excited about barack minscule income tax cut for 95% of americans but just remember he has made alot of other expensive promises and he has to pay for them some how.
Oh I almost forgot about his capital gains tax increases. My wife and I are not in the 5% that will get this tax increase but we will get screwed by his capital gains tax proposal. We own our house and right now their is about 30,000 dollars equity in it. Under the current tax laws if I sold my house I would get to pocket the entire $30,000 but with Barack as president I would pay taxes as high as 30% on that $30,000 dollars so I guess that moves me into that 5% even though my wife and I only make about $95,000.
After reading this, I wonder what all did McCain lie about his vacation in Vietnam?
wow, Fox News helping people get the “truth”
… thank you for doing your job and being professional.
Ta for exposing the truth. Much appreciated.
Cheers
Finally, some balanced reporting about McCain! I have been waiting for Fox to report this for some time now (seeing how every other news organization has reported on it a few months ago). I try to watch CNN and Fox, but lately, I can’t stomach the partisan reporting of Fox. Thank you for renewing my faith in your news organization.
-A Republican for Obama!
Obama’s speech during his convention was full of distortions, too. What else is new?
Is McCain and Sara Palin willing to push to extend the “Alaska Dep. of Rev. Perminant Fund Dividend Program” for ALL U.S. Citizens to ensure eqial pay for all Americans.
[...] News: John McCain’s problems with tax policy Does John McCain Have a Tax Problem? Answer: Probably Major Garretts Bourbon Room FOXNews.com Hey, this is actually from — Fox. Some highlights. [...]
Mr. Garrett,
All McCain has to do is remind people of the last Democrat that promised a tax cut, Clinton, and what we got instead.
Need I say more?
chas
McCain can keep accusing the mainstream media of being biased, but nothing is going to help him cover up the fact (even his lies), that his policies hurt working class people. He has no idea what we are going through and never will. He comes from an elite military famiy and never experienced what it is to be one of the masses. I appreciate the fact he was tortured but that doesn’t excuse the fact he can’t identify with mainstream America. One day the Republicans will stop serving there own selfish interest and realize we all are in this together. I have news for him. WE ARE TAKING BACK OUR COUNTRY and you rich folks can eat it.
Wow! Fox runs an unbiased article about the GOP. Amazing. I didn’t think it was possible.
Thanks Major for including the links that provided the information for your report. Gives it a lot of credibility. Great job! The policies differences are so very obvious this year. I have NOT voted FOR someone in years and am very excited to vote for Obama this November. Yes, we have tough days ahead but with a true leader, not a manager, we can make it happen.
John McCain has a mental problem!!
John McCain, in his first television interview since his shocking vice presidential pick, said that he saw in Sarah Palin “a partner and a soul mate.” The “Soulmate” comment was totally inappropriate and extremely disrespectful to McCain’s wife, Cindy.
I have seldom heard the word “soulmate” used outside of the context of a romantic involvement and is almost unequivocally reserved for one’s wife or intended wife. To use it in the context of a VP to President affiliation conjures visual imagery that is disgusting. One can only imagine him calling her to the oval office to check out the assets, slap her on the ass, and comment, “Well you ARE my soulmate… right?”… eeeeeeeeewwww
I honestly [no really] think that McCain is suffering from mental illness. To use this terminology (even if he was thinking it) is unconscionable. Who says stuff like that [oh... George Bush rambles without thought all the time]. He is openly and clearly “coming on to Sarah”, it is uncomfortable to watch and can anyone say, irresponsible, irrational, unprofessional and disrespectful. More than any of that, he is using his position to try to get some “play” at the expense of the American people. How long will the stupid, puppet Republican base stand behind this behavior and worse try to defend it. It is really pathetic…
Bush was as crazy and clearly out of touch with reality as I thought possible for a public official with his ramblings, made up words, irrational and often incoherent answers to simple questions.
Now we get McCain, MORE IRRATIONAL and clearly deluded to think that we the American public will sit back, watch the dating ritual unfold, blindly accept it because what — we call ourselves Republicans. Really people. Really…. Can we please stop the madness. Gas is going up, war is breaking out, our borders are being threatened … and we now have Monica Lewinski being courted for our next potential White House scandal. Please…
Mc Cain has more than a tax problem. His fiscal policy is just an extension of the 100+ year-old Republican “trickle-down-effect”, which is an Americanized version of the European feudal system of years ago. No middle class, just the very rich and the very poor. The trickle-down effect has NEVER worked for anyone but the very wealthy. (ref the 1929 crash, and the nazi regieme in Germany in the 1930’s.
The trickle dries up into a slow drip due to GREED. The amount of money in circulation dries up because it is hoarded by the wealthy in the form of mansions, yachts, expensive cars, and Business interests that cater to the military-industrial-complex.
When Eisenhower left office he warned of the dangers of letting the military-industrial-complex have too much influence on our government. We are now seing what he meant.
Building automobiles, Houses, and other consumer goods circulates money to the working class which promptly spend it. The money stays in circulation, and jobs abound. When the money is spent on munitions and other related materials, it is blown to h—. and thus is gone forever.
While building military hardware does circulate money, it is a one-time event and the re-circulation of the money does not continue in a regenerative process as in consumer goods.
The foregoing is only a smattering of the problems related to the mis-guided fiscal policies of our present goernment in washington D C. A fix is needed FAST as we are already in “deep doo-doo.
I think McShame is using Karl Rove’s strategy to tell a lie so frequently that people will see it as truth. Obama camp should hit back hardly on this. McShame first voted against Bush tax cut and then forcefully supported it second time when he realized his wife is a big beneficiary of that tax cut more than average Americans.
Did the people who roared for Obama get a tax cut under Bush? Do the people who roared for Obama realize this example — If I own a business and I have 15 employees, that by raising my taxes and most likely raising my overall coast to run the business I will now go down to 10 employees, and my product will go up in price. Lets hear a roar for that.
If you really want to see where Obama/Biden/Pelosi/Reid will take this country, look no further than Great Britain. The Labour Party under Tony Blair promised CHANGE and the brits went for it.
12 years later, the brits are furious with the welfare hand outs and are about to toss the Labour Party out in massive numbers.
Beware of the agents of change because they will use your money to implement those changes. Net result, bankruptcy.
How come people here aren’t arguing about the point of the article? The fact is, McCain DOES continually distort and outright lie about Obama’s proposals. You may still think Obama’s proposals are bad ones, but does that justify your candidates great “integrity”? By the way, trickle down economics IS the Republican standard and relies upon the premise that buisnesses so desperately want to pass on their increased revenues to workers. So then my percentage of wage increase should equal that of those at the top right? Um…nope! Worker productivity has increased much faster than wages so if we “get what we earn” then we should be getting more. Buisnesses pay workers only as much as they need to, not based on their profit margin. As for Obama bankrupting the country, try actually reading the link the article is based on. McCains plan actually causes a greater deficit. But why bother to read the facts right?
The above stated tax cuts by either party are incorrect and not be be as posted. No One , I mean No One knows what any additional tax cut would be,
I do no that those who pay no taxes today who think they would be entitled to aan additional tax cut.You pay no taxes how do you expect a cut.
T
As I watched with interest McCain’s Ohio rally in which he introduced his vice presendential running mate, I was astounded. Although not a Republican, I liked Mitt Romney. Of course it’s the presidential candidate’s right to choose, however, I find it hard to believe that no other more qualified (female) gubernatorial candidate was ripe for the picking. The selection of a female vp running mate was a bright strategy….but …..the American women and public are not ignorant..Anyone just will not do.
Obama Tax Plan: The premise that America honors and encourages entrepreneurial spirit is absent from the Obama plan. His plan seems to be focused on redistribution of wealth (socialism) and in the final analysis punishes success and rewards failure. If a tax cut to higher earners is equal to a higher dollar amount, it is notbecause they are getting a larger tax break. It us soley due to the fact that they earned more money…10% of $100,000= $10,000 and 10% of $10,000 = $1,000. Your article distorts the facts, please be more factual, without taking facts out of context to create a distortion of the picture, and more accurate and objective.
Tax issues aside. America can’t afford Barak Obama. Period.
“We’ll give you everything” and the people roared.
It’s called buying votes now. In a year it will be
called unkept promises.
Every honest authority (Rep or Dem) on taxes and the
national debt will tell you all these promises can not
be kept, no matter who is President or who runs the
congress.
Most people hear what they want to hear. Any wonder
most politicians look upon the electorate as stupid.
Wake up America. I said wake up!—– Oh well.
Terry:
I appreciate your analysis. I do wish you would take a look at “micor-economic theory” taught in every economics school in the nation. You must analyze the change in marginal cost versus the change in marginal revenue of this or any business before you make this kind of statement. There are things you need to factor in to your analysis: Will the firm make a decision based on long-term or short-term analysis? How long will it take for the fixed costs to become variable costs? I won’t bo into the long list of decisions here. There is an age old rule of micro-ecomonic analysis: For any bit of behavior there are many, many causes. We have terribel short comings (on both sides) when we make snap judgement comments about economic impact without detailed analysis. Under any scenario, the reduction you suggest of going from 15 employees to 10 employees is quite extreme in the least and tends to be a false representation of the real world decision.
Chas says, “All McCain has to do is remind people of the last Democrat that promised a tax cut, Clinton, and what we got instead. Need I say more?”
Yeah. All you need to say is “Largests surpluses in United States history.”
And Terry, did you not read Major’s links? Obama would actually cut taxes for small businesses. Why would you use such a patently false example?
Nobama WILL raise our taxes. He tells the people what they want to hear. Remember, He did not wear an American Flag pin until he was approached. He did not get away from that preacher until he was called on it. Nobama has his own agenda, he wants to fool the public. He only does and say things that people want to hear. I don’t trust him.
Let’s see if the McCain campaign SUES Fox for running this story the same way the Obama campaign tries to stifle negative press. I’m not holding my breath.
I think the only thing the McCain campaign has to worry about is the manipulation of public opinion by the media. Attention media: Report the news and stop trying to use your jobs to slant public opinion for Obama! The media should report the news in a fair and balanced way and allow the voters to make up their own minds about the candidates. We the voters resent being manipulated.
Mr. Garrett, where is your objectivity? You seem to be taken in by all of the Obamamania.
C.S.
“You always want the best for your child, no matter what.”
There are many of us who believe that if Obama gets into the Presidency that our children will suffer. So for us DOING something to stop that is better than WHINING about everything later. High taxes bring on a stagnating economy…just look at how JFK saw that and decreased the tax rate.
“A child always needs a mother–even more so, when they have Down’s Syndrome”.
A child, any child, needs loving adults around him or her. Are you actually going to say that Dad’s can’t fit the bill? Would you say that if she were working for a mine or Walmart?(very demanding bosses at times) Your arguement is superficial at best, and has every sign of you now wondering how well your candidate will do.
“This just reinforces the fact that Treg is not hers” Only if you live in never-never land where the truth is twisted to fit your idiodic conclusions.
I bet you think this is just a right wing consiracy too….how ridiculous!
This is a response to Cyndy and her response to Sarah Palin’s nimination as VP.
It seems strange that women from the left only see it as a positive if women are nominated that are liberal in their philosophy. If a conservative is nominated then they (the conservative nominee) are seen as fair game for character assasination. This is an insult to women on both sides of the aisle.
This kind of rhetoric filled with misleading, or as in this case out right lies, about the candidate only goes to feed the stereotype that women may not be ready for this office. I am an unashamed conservative. I also believe that women can lead and that their gender can and should be an asset to them.
The accusations made by Cyndy have been proven false and it is a sad state of affairs when the only response you can come up with is some kind half baked lie passed around the internet. Both sides are guilty of getting dirty on the political rhetoric, but to accuse someone of not only lying about the birth of their child but to then in the same breath accuse them of somehow doing a disservice by giving birth to a child that they new would have Down’s Syndrome is showing the true colors of the feminist left.
Maybe the glass cieling is not kept in place by white men? Could it be that if you don’t fit their mold or pass the litmus test of liberatlity, then the “glass cieling” will keep you from advancing (if they have their way)?
Wow, thanks so much for honest reporting. I will pay more attention to your room now. I admire you for speaking out the truth (seems others at Fox are wearing blurred glassed).
McCain is in a mess and we all must search for the truth in this election. We are going to be in a bigger mess if McCain is elected.
Thanks again for the truth.
If being unknown and having a lack of experience makes her a bad choice for vice president. Then the democrates have made a bad choice in selecting Obama for president!
Did McCain pick the most experience person for VP? Probably not. Did he pick the right person for VP? We will find out soon enough.
If there is real fear about the unknown and lack of experience the dems would have picked HILLARY!
Obama is using the progressive strategy of lets soak it to the rich. One problem with this is that according the IRS Statistics of Income, 2008, the top 1% which comprises 22% of all income paid 40% tax share and the top 25% comprising 68% of income share paid 86% of all taxes for 2006. What Obama wants to do is a wealth re-distribution with tax payers being taxed more so that non-taxpayers get a tax “rebate” on taxes they never paid. Remember you cannot go over 100% (oh wait a minute, they tried that in England and with the economy near collapse they voted in Margaret Thatcher and the rest is history).
John McCain owes back taxas, I’m sure!! No way does they military set you up this handsomely. Its very important for a president to be law abiding, including theirs affiliates. I’m offended MCCAIN!
I for one will not be reading or listening to any more of the media lies about McCain They have been in the tank for Obama for months and this latest smear of Palin has nailed the coffin shut.
Amazing the comments about Palins Child and her Daughters pregnancy. They can both be true. Duh… They were both pregnant. There was no cover up.
I love how the majority of people in this forum believe this article is unbiased. I suppose if it were a slam on Obama all of you would be crying that it is unfair. Give me a break.
If McCain and Palin are elected, and something would happen to McCain, then Palin would be the President and Pelosi would be the Vice President. Is the United States really ready for this?
No tax hike is good for the economy. That just bites the hands of those whom employ us. Also,
every business that is taxed will pass those taxes down to consumers. How will that help anyone?
